MG Group made a strong impression at the Busworld India Conclave 2026, underlining its growing stature in India’s bus and coach industry through a combination of engineering capability, premium mobility solutions, and a clear long-term vision for safer and more sustainable transportation.

One of the highlights of the event was the showcase of TIGRA, MG Group’s recently launched super-premium intercity coach, which reflected the company’s increasing focus on elevating passenger comfort, safety, and overall travel experience. The event also served as an important platform for the company to reaffirm its commitment towards integrated manufacturing, regulatory compliance, and technology-led growth as the Indian mobility ecosystem undergoes rapid transformation.
The company’s presence gained further significance during the address by Hon’ble Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways, Shri Nitin Gadkari, who emphasized that the future of India’s mobility sector would belong to manufacturers prioritizing safety, quality, innovation, and sustainability at the highest level.

In a noteworthy endorsement, the Minister specifically acknowledged MG Group and its Chairman & Managing Director, Anil Mohan Kamat, for the company’s contribution towards strengthening India’s bus and coach industry through world-class manufacturing standards and a strong focus on compliance and safety.
“Among private manufacturers, MG Group exemplifies the standard of quality, safety, and compliance that I want to see across India’s bus and coach industry. Safety is the top priority and there is no compromise with safety,” Shri Nitin Gadkari stated during the conclave.
The recognition comes at a significant milestone for the company as MG Group marks 30 years of manufacturing excellence in the Indian bus and coach industry. Over the years, the company has established itself as one of India’s prominent integrated bus and coach manufacturers with a product range spanning school buses, staff transportation, mofussil applications, premium intercity coaches and mobile medical applications.
MG Group’s plants today operate as fully integrated manufacturing hubs complete bus body assembly, composite parts, electrical and electronic products, fire protection systems, seating systems and interior trim parts, while its key focuses include premium coach design and development and engineering elevated passenger experience.
The company has also continued strengthening its credentials in safety and regulatory compliance, being amongst the first in the industry to secure AIS-153 certification across its intercity coach product range. MG Group’s growing industry presence has further been recognised through awards such as Coach of the Year and Application Builder of the Year, while Anil Mohan Kamat himself was honoured as Breakthrough Leader of the Year at a national commercial vehicle industry forum.
Engineering-Led Transformation
Speaking on the sidelines of the conclave, Kamat shared his perspective on the evolving direction of India’s bus industry and MG Group’s role within it. According to him, the event reflected the larger transformation underway across the mobility ecosystem, particularly towards cleaner technologies and higher-quality transportation solutions.
“The direction in which the entire industry is moving is very clear – towards cleaner fuels, alternate energy systems and better-quality products. We at MG are aligned with that vision and are focused on moving strongly in that direction,” he said.

Kamat also highlighted the encouraging participation of legacy OEMs, new-age manufacturers, operators, and technology players at the event, describing it as a sign of the industry’s rapidly changing landscape.
“It was fantastic to see new OEMs, operators and aggregators all coming together. Technology is now playing a major role in every aspect of bus operations, whether for manufacturers or operators,” he remarked.
India’s bus industry, he believes, still has enormous untapped growth potential. Referring to the country’s relatively low bus penetration levels, Kamat pointed out that the sector offers substantial opportunities for expansion in the years ahead. He noted that the government’s sustained investments in road infrastructure, expressways, economic corridors, and connectivity projects – a key theme highlighted by the Transport Minister during the conclave – are expected to act as major enablers for the next phase of growth. As travel times reduce and intercity connectivity improves, the demand for safer, more comfortable, and technologically advanced buses is expected to rise significantly, creating opportunities across the value chain.
“The demand is here to stay. India’s bus penetration is still extremely low compared to global benchmarks, which means there is huge room for growth for everyone in the industry,” he noted.
At the same time, he stressed that the next phase of industry growth would depend less on conventional fabrication practices and more on investments in precision manufacturing, R&D, technology, and lifecycle support capabilities.
“We have moved far beyond the fabrication stage to become a completely engineering-driven enterprise. Our commitment today is towards elevating passenger as well as operator experience,” Kamat explained.
Building the Next Generation of Premium Coaches
That philosophy is clearly visible in MG Group’s latest premium offerings as well as its broader operational strategy. With revenues now exceeding Rs. 700 crore, the company is continuing to invest in expanding manufacturing capabilities, automation, advanced composites, and automotive electronics.
The recently launched TIGRA premium coach represents an important step in that direction. The vehicle was showcased to Shri Nitin Gadkari during the Conclave, with the Minister appreciating the company’s efforts towards developing premium, safety-focused mobility solutions.
Commenting on MG Group’s long-term direction, Kamat said: “India’s mobility ecosystem is undergoing a fundamental transformation. With over 90% of public transport dependent on buses, the need for safe, scalable, and efficient mobility solutions is more critical than ever. MG Group is investing in integrated manufacturing, advanced engineering, and regulatory leadership to address this demand.”
“Our focus is to build scale with precision, lead in safety and compliance, and deliver a superior passenger experience. We are not just building buses; we are actively participating in shaping the future of mobility in India,” he added.
Strengthening Lifecycle Support and Capacity Expansion
Apart from product innovation, MG Group is also placing significant emphasis on aftersales support and lifecycle management. Kamat explained that the company is strengthening its “3S” ecosystem covering sales, service, and spares to ensure stronger operational reliability and long-term value creation for fleet operators.
“The entire lifecycle of the product matters. That is why we are investing strongly in aftersales support and building a comprehensive 3S backbone for our customers,” he said.

Looking ahead, MG Group remains particularly bullish about the future of the premium intercity coach segment in India. Rising passenger expectations, increasing focus on safety and comfort, and the government’s sustained push towards modern mobility infrastructure are expected to drive long-term demand growth.
“We are very bullish about the intercity coach business and are already taking steps to expand our capacities in this space,” Kamat concluded.
As the Indian bus and coach industry transitions towards a more technology-driven and compliance-focused future, MG Group appears determined to position itself at the forefront of that evolution through engineering-led integrated manufacturing and a strong commitment to passenger-centric mobility solutions.
