TCI MD: Logistics Key to Converting Festive Demand

Mr. Vineet Agarwal, Managing Director, Transport Corporation of India Ltd

India’s festive season is placing renewed focus on logistics and supply-chain agility as businesses across sectors gear up to meet heightened consumer demand. Vineet Agarwal, Managing Director, Transport Corporation of India Ltd., said logistics would play a decisive role in determining how much of the festive demand translates into actual sales.

Mr. Vineet Agarwal, Managing Director, Transport Corporation of India Ltd. said, “We are already in the heart of India’s festive season, and logistics is now a decisive factor in how much of this demand translates into actual sales. Inventory replenishment and seasonal stocking are in full swing across automotive, FMCG, consumer durables, e-commerce and quick commerce, with Tier II and Tier III markets driving more frequent, fragmented and geographically dispersed freight movement.

For businesses, the question is no longer just about adding capacity; it is about supply-chain agility. Winners will be those who have positioned inventory closer to demand centres, optimised routes in real time, and ensured end-to-end visibility so that delivery promises are kept without compromising service levels.

An integrated, multimodal approach – combining road, rail, coastal shipping, warehousing and cold chain – will be critical to absorb these peaks while improving cost and operational efficiency. The current demand momentum is encouraging but uneven across sectors. The real test will be whether this festive surge leads to a broader, sustained consumption recovery in the months that follow.”
