OHM Global Mobility, the strategic e-mobility arm of Ashok Leyland and part of the Hinduja Group, has launched 130 new air-conditioned electric buses in Chennai under Phase 2 of the Metropolitan Transport Corporation’s (MTC) electric bus programme. The buses were flagged off by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Mr. C. Joseph Vijay at the Secretariat, in the presence of Transport Minister Mr. Vijay Tamilan Parthiban, Transport Secretary Mr. Nirmal Raj, and MTC Managing Director Mr. D. Mohan.
The 130 buses, manufactured by Switch — Ashok Leyland’s electric vehicle subsidiary — are the first batch of OHM’s Phase 2 deployment, under which the company will supply and operate a total of 500 e-buses for MTC.
The launch builds on OHM’s Phase 1 performance in Chennai, where its electric buses have clocked more than 3 crore green kilometres, with Phase 1 depots achieving 99%+ schedule adherence.
