According to Mr. Premchandran, the rapid shift towards electric mobility is creating new engineering challenges for bearing manufacturers. Bearings are being redesigned to operate at higher rotational speeds, reduce friction and support EV traction motors and reduction gearboxes while overcoming issues such as electrical fluting caused by stray currents.
He also highlighted that vehicle lightweighting and efficiency targets are accelerating demand for compact, high-load-capacity bearings manufactured using advanced materials and surface treatments. At the same time, IoT-enabled smart bearings with integrated sensors are emerging as a key differentiator by enabling predictive maintenance, real-time condition monitoring and improved uptime across automotive, commercial vehicle and industrial applications.
Beyond mobility, strong growth in manufacturing, infrastructure and industrial machinery is expanding opportunities for application-specific bearing solutions, while localisation, supply chain resilience and sustainable manufacturing are becoming increasingly important across global markets.
