From pioneering customer success centres and EV applications to building future-ready skills, Mithila Motors is strengthening its position as one of eastern India’s leading Tata Motors commercial vehicle dealerships while preparing for the next phase of industry growth.

The journey of Mithila Motors Pvt. Ltd. began in 1958 under the leadership of Late Shri Bipin Parikh as a TELCO, now Tata Motors Commercial Vehicles, dealership. What started as a small operation serving customers in Bihar has evolved into one of the most respected commercial vehicle dealership networks in Jharkhand and the eastern region.
Over nearly seven decades, the company has expanded its presence across the entire Tata Motors commercial vehicle portfolio, covering small commercial vehicles, pick-ups, light and intermediate commercial vehicles, buses, vans, and medium and heavy commercial vehicles. Alongside vehicle sales, Mithila Motors has steadily built capabilities in finance, insurance, annual maintenance contracts, fleet management services, pre-owned vehicles, and on-site customer support.
Today, with a workforce of over 350 employees, the company continues to focus on delivering comprehensive mobility solutions while maintaining long-term relationships with transporters, fleet operators, industrial customers, and government organisations.
“Our growth has always been driven by a simple philosophy; supporting customers beyond vehicle sales. Whether through service, finance, fleet management or operational support, our objective has been to create value throughout the customer’s journey,” said Mr. Diloo Parikh, Director, Mithila Motors Pvt. Ltd.
Building a Legacy Beyond Business
The dealership’s growth story has been accompanied by a strong commitment to social development. Inspired by the Tata philosophy of nation-building, the Parikh family established the Shri Gopal Krishna Seva Trust in 1971 to support communities around Jamshedpur.
The trust’s Applied Nutrition Programme received national recognition when it was honoured with the President’s Award in 1972 by former President V. V. Giri. More than five decades later, the trust continues to serve over 50 villages through mother and child welfare initiatives.
Within the organisation, Mithila Motors places equal importance on employee development. The company encourages leadership, technical expertise, and customer-focused skills while fostering a culture built on integrity, commitment, passion, and speed.
“People remain our greatest strength. We continuously invest in developing our teams because customer satisfaction ultimately depends on the capability and commitment of our employees,” Mr. Parikh explained.
This combination of customer focus, employee development, and social responsibility has helped Mithila Motors build a reputation that extends well beyond traditional dealership operations.

Maintaining Momentum in a Changing Market
FY2025 presented a mixed environment for the commercial vehicle industry. While the first half of the year remained relatively subdued, demand improved significantly during the second half, supported by stronger freight activity, infrastructure projects, and healthy agricultural output.
Demand for trucks and intermediate and light commercial vehicles witnessed positive traction, while favourable rainfall helped drive tipper sales linked to construction and mining activity. Festive demand and improving transporter confidence also contributed to stronger retail activity.
Despite varying market conditions, Mithila Motors successfully retained its volumes and revenue performance across key segments. “The second half of the year saw stronger customer sentiment. Better freight utilisation, infrastructure activity and improved business confidence supported demand across multiple vehicle categories,” he said.
The company witnessed healthy traction from both fleet operators and retail customers, allowing it to maintain stability while continuing to strengthen its customer base.

Creating New Opportunities Through Applications
As customer requirements become increasingly specialised, Mithila Motors has focused on developing application-specific solutions that address unique operational challenges.
One of its most notable innovations has been the deployment of the first Tata Ultra T.19 configured for mining support operations. Developed in collaboration with ARX Mining and Palfinger Cranes, the vehicle was designed to transport heavy engines from deep mining locations to the surface for repair and maintenance. The solution addressed a critical operational challenge faced by mining companies and subsequently generated repeat orders.
“Innovation becomes meaningful when it solves real customer problems. The mining application developed on the Ultra platform is an example of how customised solutions can create entirely new opportunities for customers,” Mr. Parikh noted.

The company has also been actively involved in supporting sustainable mobility initiatives. Working with Tata Steel Utilities and Infrastructure Services Ltd., Mithila Motors developed electric garbage tipper applications based on the Tata Ace EV platform for waste management operations. The initiative contributed to the dealership achieving nearly 27 percent EV penetration in its SCV retail sales during March 2025, a significant milestone within the small commercial vehicle space.
The dealership continues to explore new applications across mining, logistics, municipal services, industrial transportation, and construction sectors, ensuring customers receive solutions tailored to their operational requirements.
Investing in Skills, Technology and Uptime
With uptime becoming a critical factor for fleet profitability, Mithila Motors has significantly strengthened its service infrastructure and technical capabilities.
A key initiative has been the establishment of an in-house technician training centre at its Jamshedpur workshop. The programme identifies young candidates from nearby villages and provides them with structured vocational and practical training before deploying them into the service ecosystem.
In partnership with the Automotive Skills Development Council (ASDC), the dealership also provides certification and placement opportunities for successful trainees. What makes the programme particularly noteworthy is the inclusion of women technicians in commercial vehicle servicing roles, an area traditionally dominated by men.
“Technology in commercial vehicles is evolving rapidly. Continuous skill development is essential not only for our business but also for creating meaningful employment opportunities for local youth,” he said.
Mithila Motors has also expanded its workshop infrastructure, taking its network capacity to over 65 service bays across the territory. Specialised bays capable of accommodating complete tractor-trailer combinations further enhance service efficiency and turnaround times.
The dealership’s technology-led approach is reflected in its Customer Success Center (CSC), launched in July 2024. The initiative monitors more than 7,000 connected trucks, allowing dedicated teams to track vehicle performance, identify potential issues, and proactively engage with drivers before breakdowns occur.
Building on this concept, Mithila Motors also established Fleet Customer Success Centres at customer locations, enabling fleet operators to monitor and optimise vehicle performance. Three such centres are already operational, with further expansion planned.

Positioned for the Next Growth Phase
Looking ahead, Mithila Motors remains optimistic about the commercial vehicle industry’s prospects. The company expects medium and heavy commercial vehicles to lead growth as ageing fleets enter the replacement cycle. Infrastructure investments, mining activity, industrial expansion, and improving freight utilisation are expected to remain key demand drivers.
The light commercial vehicle segment is likely to benefit from sustained growth in e-commerce and last-mile logistics, while buses should continue to gain support from government procurement programmes and increasing electrification initiatives.
“The industry is moving into a phase driven by infrastructure spending, fleet replacement and operational efficiency. While challenges such as fuel price volatility and financing conditions remain, we believe the long-term fundamentals for commercial vehicles remain strong,” Mr. Parikh observed.
Having successfully blended a rich legacy with innovation, technology, and customer-centricity, Mithila Motors is steadily evolving from a conventional dealership into a comprehensive mobility solutions partner. As it approaches seven decades of operations, the company remains focused on strengthening customer success, developing future-ready talent, and capturing new growth opportunities across eastern India’s commercial vehicle landscape.
