The company’s vision is to strengthen its position as India’s largest phygital marketplace for pre-owned vehicles, equipment, and other assets while creating sustainable value for every stakeholder in the ecosystem, says, Mr. Sameer Malhotra, Director & CEO, Shriram Automall India Limited (SAMIL).

India’s pre-owned vehicle and equipment industry is entering a transformative decade, driven by digital adoption, regulatory reforms, evolving customer expectations, and greater institutional participation. Industry estimates suggest the used passenger vehicle market could surpass nine million annual sales by 2030, growing faster than the new vehicle market, driven by increasing digital adoption, rising affordability, and the rapid shift towards organised marketplaces.
One of the most significant trends, according to Mr. Malhotra, will be the formalisation of the ecosystem. Government initiatives such as the Vehicle Scrapping Policy, digitised RTO processes, and the VAHAN database are improving traceability and fostering greater trust among buyers and sellers. This will accelerate the shift from fragmented transactions to structured marketplace platforms.
The phygital model will become the industry standard, enabling customers to enjoy the convenience of digital discovery, bidding, documentation, and payments while continuing to value physical inspection, quality assurance, and local support for high-value purchases.
At the same time, AI and data analytics will transform decision-making across the value chain. Industry research indicates that more than 80% of vehicle buyers begin their purchase journey online, making AI-driven recommendations, digital inspections, intelligent pricing, and data-backed decision-making increasingly critical. Financing, insurance, warranties, and other value-added services will further enhance affordability and accessibility.
As India’s mobility landscape diversifies, specialised marketplaces across passenger vehicles, commercial vehicles, construction equipment, farm equipment, two-wheelers, three-wheelers, and electric vehicles will continue to mature, making category-specific expertise a key differentiator.
Vision 2030
“Our priorities through 2030 are centred on enhancing customer experience through technology-driven and personalised services, deepening collaborations with banks, NBFCs, and financial institutions to enable seamless financing, and expanding our nationwide phygital presence across Tier-2 and Tier-3 markets.
We are equally committed to strengthening India’s organised pre-owned commercial vehicle and construction equipment ecosystem by delivering trusted remarketing solutions that empower transporters, contractors, fleet owners, and businesses across the country. We aim to accelerate digital transformation through AI-powered innovations, set new benchmarks in transparency and trust, and build a future-ready marketplace that supports India’s growing circular economy and pre-owned mobility ecosystem.”
“We will continue to strengthen the trade-in ecosystem in collaboration with OEMs and dealers, enabling faster, more transparent, and value-driven vehicle exchange solutions while supporting the organised growth of the automotive industry.”
