ICAT’s first BS-VI HD engine certification goes to Eicher

The CV maker first to develop BS-VI compliant CNG engine

International Centre for Automotive Technology (ICAT), a division of the NATRiP Implementation Society (NATIS) under the Ministry of Heavy Industries & Public Enterprises has recently completed the first BS-VI certification for a heavy duty engine model for Eicher Trucks & Buses, part of VE Commercial Vehicles Ltd. The certification makes Eicher the first commercial vehicle manufacturer to be certified BS-VI compliant for over 3.5T GVW CNG engines.

Mr. Vinod Aggarwal, MD & CEO, and Mr. Rajinder Sachdeva, COO, VECV (third and fourth from right respectively), receiving the BS-VI certification from Mr. Dinesh Tyagi, ICAT Director, and Ms. Pamela Tikku, Sr. GM, ICAT

Having successfully completed the compliance test much ahead of the official implementation date of April 1, 2020, this move further strengthens Eicher’s position as a future-ready player. The development also takes VECV’s Green Profitability commitment a step ahead.

Commenting on the development, Mr. Vinod Aggarwal, MD & CEO, VE Commercial Vehicles, said: “At VECV, it has been our consistent effort to drive modernisation in commercial transportation and develop products which are future ready and aligned to India’s regulatory framework. We have already been producing Euro-VI compliant engines for the Volvo Group and used that expertise in developing a CNG BS-VI solution much ahead of the industry norms. Going forward, we are confident of introducing this as a robust and competitive solution for the end customers.”

The development has given decent exposure to both VECV and ICAT for key areas for BS-VI emission optimization and testing. The successful completion of emission development and certification at this stage gives good period of time to launch a robust and most feasible solution for customers.
