Haiger India Air Conditioning Pvt. Ltd. was established in 2004 by Mr. Rishi Pathak, an expert with nearly two decades of experience in the field. The company, having partnership with Shunde Taichang Bus Airconditioner Co. Ltd., a leading bus air-conditioning manufacturer in China, has sold over 4,500 bus air-conditioning units across India till date. Over the years, it has expanded its product range from an initial offering of three models to a product portfolio of 13 at present.

At the recently held Busworld India in Mumbai, the company, along with its Chinese partner, presented its new range of AC-DC air-conditioners for seven to 11m buses. Haiger has already introduced the AC DC technology for smaller buses, but this is the first time it has been adopted for longer buses.

Says Mr. Simon Su, Owner, Shunde Taichang Bus Airconditioner Co. Ltd.: “Haiger is a very good brand, and we have been very good partners in India for the last seven years. We have introduced the new range of AC-DC air-conditioners for longer buses in the Indian market and will bring in more new products in the near future.”

The AC-DC technology eliminates the need for a separate engine for the air-conditioning system and draws only around five to six hp of power from the vehicle engine. This helps save a lot of diesel and power, in addition to bringing down emissions.

While the bus is in motion, the alternator installed on the vehicle engine will supply 24v to the battery which will charge the other batteries. The 24v DC supply is for the AC unit by which the condenser fan and blower motors start working. The frequency convertor installed in the AC system would convert 24 VDC from the battery into 24v 3 phase 110 Hz (frequency) electricity, which will be supplied to the compressor for the refrigeration cycle to start functioning.

Haiger’s customer base includes private operators, bus body builders, airlines for tarmac coaches and schools. Moving forward, the company is planning to venture into truck cabin air-conditioning, followed by truck refrigeration.
