FlixBus Strengthens Network Capacity Across Key Corridors as Festive Travel Drives August Demand

: India’s intercity travel demand saw a strong seasonal uptick in August, with a series of major occasions including Independence Day, Raksha Bandhan and Onam driving increased movement across key domestic travel corridors. Responding to the anticipated rise in passenger demand, FlixBus strengthened capacity across several high-demand routes during the month.

The route-level performance reflects the impact of the festive travel season, with FlixBus recording significant month-on-month growth in network across select corridors. The Jaipur-Dehradun corridor saw the network increase by 33% month-on-month, while Delhi-Amritsar recorded a 25% increase. Network on the Hyderabad-Tirupati route grew by 150%, while the Chennai-Vijayawada corridor saw a 67% increase.

The network expansion is part of FlixBus’ approach to responding dynamically to changes and patterns in travel demand, particularly around periods when intercity mobility typically sees higher volumes. By strengthening services on key corridors, the company is enabling passengers to access additional travel options while supporting its fleet partners in meeting the seasonal surge.

Surya Khurana, Managing Director, FlixBus India, said, “Building a strong intercity network is not just about adding capacity; it is also about being able to anticipate where mobility needs are emerging and scale accordingly. At FlixBus, we are focused on creating a connected, demand-led network that gives passengers greater choice while enabling our regional fleet partners to grow with us. The expansion we saw across key corridors during this period is an important reflection of this strategy and our long-term commitment to strengthening intercity connectivity in India.”

The increase in network across these corridors comes as intercity bus travel continues to play an important role in connecting major cities with pilgrimage, leisure and regional travel destinations. Festive periods such as Raksha Bandhan and Onam further contribute to this movement, as travellers increasingly plan journeys between metropolitan centres and their hometowns or nearby destinations.

For FlixBus, such periods also provide an opportunity to assess route-level demand and optimise network capacity in line with changing passenger travel patterns. The company continues to work with its fleet partners to scale operations across corridors where demand is strongest, while maintaining its focus on safety, technology-enabled operations and a consistent passenger experience.
