FICCI hails Centre’s approval of EV-based public transportation in 11 cities

Appreciating the Government effort towards promoting electric mobility in the country, the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) has welcomed the announcement made by the Minister for Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises, Mr. Anant Geete, to provide subsidy to 11 cities under FAME India for launching electric buses, taxis and three-wheelers.

Mr. Shekar Viswanathan, Chairman, FICCI Taskforce on Electric Vehicle and Vice Chairman & Whole Time Director, Toyota Kirloskar Motors

“This is a major step forward by the Government. The focus on public transportation (buses, taxis and autos), will enhance cleaner public transportation and help create awareness about electric vehicles amongst operators, consumers of public transportation and the general public at large. This will catalyse the faster adoption of electric vehicles in the country”, said Mr. Shekar Viswanathan, Chairman, FICCI Taskforce on Electric Vehicle, and Vice Chairman & Whole Time Director, Toyota Kirloskar Motors.

Mr. Viswanathan added that the support of the Minister to hybrids is an important indication of a pragmatic technology neutral approach that will help in faster adoption of a full range of electric vehicle technologies and their manufacturing in India. This is critical for reducing fossil fuel imports and lowering pollution.
