At EXCON 2025, Allison Transmission made a strong statement with its pavilion, highlighting its promise of productivity, durability, and availability. The company showcased its latest automatic transmission solutions for mining and construction vehicles, under the message “Because Every Load Matters.” Footfall at the pavilion was impressive, attracting a mix of OEMs, fleet operators, and industry stakeholders.

Anshul Gupta, Senior Director – Sales, Allison Transmission India

Mr. Anshul Gupta, Senior Director – Sales, Allison Transmission India, explained, “The messaging here is simple; Allison stands for machines that work 24 X 7. Durability and reliability are the promise we give to our customers, and that is what we are communicating at this show.” The company’s pavilion prominently featured the TerraTran product, an evolution of the widely used 4800 series transmission. Unlike its predecessor, which required manual selection of the crawler gear, TerraTran offers a fully automatic solution from the first gear to the last, closer steps between each gear enabling 1st lockup and overall enhanced driveability, gradeability and maneuverability. This also means simplifying operations for wide-body mining trucks and enhancing overall efficiency.

“The TerraTran product is designed for higher capability, higher GVW vehicles, particularly wide-body mining trucks now entering the Indian market,” Mr. Gupta said. “It ensures optimal uptime, reliability, and productivity, addressing the specific needs of our mining customers.”

Allison Transmission’s approach in India goes beyond supplying transmissions; the company focuses on generating demand directly from end customers. “We work on creating pull from the end market and then collaborate with OEMs to release the right product. Our deep connection with customers allows us to understand requirements, anticipate challenges, and provide solutions that minimize downtime,” Mr. Gupta explained. He emphasized that these vehicles operate non-stop, and maintenance shutdowns are not an option for operators.

The company is also leveraging its extensive service and dealer network to ensure seamless aftermarket support. “Our distributor and dealer channels are available to service vehicles across multiple geographies and mines. This support is critical to maintaining vehicle availability and productivity,” Mr. Gupta added. Allison’s engagement with OEMs such as Sany, XCMG, and LiuGong demonstrates the growing adoption of automatic transmissions in India, with volumes expected to rise in the coming years.

Allison is making significant investments in India, The company’s state-of-the-art facility expansion in Chennai is expected to begin initial production in Q1 2026, ramping to full capacity in 2027. This move not only boosts indigenization but also reflects Allison’s commitment to the Indian market.

The company has also strengthened its research and development capabilities. India is the only market outside the US where Allison conducts application engineering for automatic transmissions. “Our Customer Integrated Engineering team works closely with fleets and OEMs to ensure that products delivered to the market meet our technical guidelines perfectly. Our dealer network further ensures that service challenges in difficult markets, such as mining, are addressed efficiently,” Mr. Gupta said.

Allison Transmission India has witnessed significant growth since 2019, expanding four to five times across on-highway, off-highway, and defense segments. Mr. Gupta highlighted the company’s focus on total cost of ownership and the need to educate the market on the benefits of automatic transmissions. “The Indian market is gradually recognizing the advantages of automatic transmissions in terms of productivity, reduced driver fatigue, and engine longevity. We see tremendous growth potential in the next four to five years,” he said.

With robust product offerings, local manufacturing, and customer-centric services, Allison Transmission is well-positioned to strengthen its foothold in India’s mining and commercial vehicle segments, supporting operators who demand high uptime and consistent performance.
