Indian foundry industry forging ahead

With the Indian automotive industry growing at a faster rate, there is huge potential for the Indian foundry industry to scale up further. The automotive sector contributes around 60% to the foundry industry’s business portfolio and this is growing bigger with the vehicle population increasing phenomenally. Against this backdrop, The Institute of Indian Foundrymen (IIF), Southern Region, along with its Chennai Chapter organised the 68th Indian Foundry Congress and IFEX 2020 from February 28, 2020 to March 1, 2020. The event attracted delegates from all over the world and was a resounding success.

Welcoming the august gathering, S. R. V. Ramanan, Chairman, 68th IFC Organising Committee, thanked everyone for their contribution made in organising the mega event after 12 years in Chennai. Sanjay Shroff, National President, Institute of Indian Foundrymen, in his presidential address, complimented the IIF Southern Region and Chennai Chapter for their excellent arrangements despite several global issues including the threat posed by corona virus. “The success of the event can be attributed to the dedicated team approach of the IIF members,” he said.

N. Muruganandam (IAS), Principal Secretary to Government of Tamil Nadu, Industries Department, in his keynote address, spoke about Tamil Nadu’s leadership in various fields including automotive and allied industries. Eur Ing. Andrew Turner, Secretary General, The World Foundry Organization, presented an overview about the technological developments taking place in the foundry industry worldwide.

Satyakam Arya, CEO and Managing Director, Daimler India Commercial Vehicles (P) Ltd., in his inaugural address, presented the successful journey of Daimler Germany and Daimler India Commercial Vehicles. Within a short span, Daimler India has not only sold a record number of commercial vehicles in India but also exported to several countries across the globe. He also made a suggestion to the foundry fraternity to focus more on the technology upgradation in line with the world standards.
