ZF, a global leader in driveline and chassis technology, has achieved a significant milestone by securing three independent orders for advanced automotive test systems, placing the company at the centre of India’s transition towards world-class vehicle safety processes and certification systems.
The orders cover battery testing, tyre testing and e-axle testing, all of which are critical as India accelerates its regulatory initiatives to make vehicle certification more robust, independent and rigorous.
ZF Test Systems places a strong emphasis on local content under the Government of India’s ‘Make in India’ initiative, supporting the country’s strategic manufacturing and technology objectives. Globally, ZF Test Systems has tested more than 100 million transmissions, demonstrating its extensive experience and proven reliability in transmission testing.
“Testing agencies are the final arbiters of vehicle safety – the bodies whose certification regulators and the public trust. Being chosen by three independent Government-backed agencies for three distinct testing disciplines is a powerful validation of ZF’s accuracy, reliability and deep understanding of India’s regulatory and testing landscape. ZF Group is proud to provide the technical foundation that enables world-class automotive safety infrastructure in India, not only for our OEM customers but also for Government and independent testing agencies,” said Akash Passey, President, ZF Group India.
Thomas Trebitsch, Vice President – ZF Test Systems and Testing, said, “Over the past few years, we have focused extensively on the tyre industry in India, introducing our complete product portfolio to the market. As the industry rapidly evolves with stronger regulations and greater emphasis on safety, there is a growing need for robust, world-class testing technologies. ZF combines global expertise with a deep understanding of the Indian automotive industry to address its specific requirements.”
Battery Testing
As electric vehicles continue to reshape India’s automotive landscape, battery safety has become increasingly critical. ZF’s battery test systems cover the complete testing spectrum – from cell and module to battery pack – across performance, endurance, environmental and mechanical abuse testing.
The solutions comply with UL, IEC, UN, IS and automotive standards, including LV124, while also supporting end-of-line (EoL) production validation to ensure every battery pack meets quality requirements before leaving the factory.
Tyre Testing
Tyres represent a vehicle’s only point of contact with the road, making their performance critical to safety. Variations in uniformity, balance or geometry can directly impact vehicle stability and increase safety risks.
As India moves towards mandatory tyre testing under BNVSAP, Quality Control Orders (QCOs) and the AIS 142 TPMS mandate requiring real-time tyre pressure monitoring on all new passenger vehicles, advanced testing capabilities have become essential.

ZF’s Tyre Efficiency Tester (TET.lab) is among the world’s most precise rolling resistance testing systems and is certified to comply with global rolling resistance regulations. Its unique hub design delivers exceptional measurement repeatability, while optional features such as dynamic slip and camber adjustment, tyre drive functionality, and low-temperature testing enable laboratories to evaluate motorcycles, passenger cars, light commercial vehicles and heavy commercial vehicles on a single modular platform.
Today, more than 500 million tyres are tested annually using ZF Tyre Test Systems worldwide, highlighting the scale, reliability and global acceptance of the company’s advanced testing technologies.
Powertrain & E-Mobility Testing

ZF’s e-mobility test benches are built around a high-performance drive module that combines a drive bearing module with a customisable receiving module for the test object.
The modular architecture supports both conventional transmissions and electric drivetrains, with configurations available in fixed, inclinable or swivelling designs, as well as single- and multi-machine operation. The systems also integrate frequency converters, precision measurement technology, automation and high-dynamic control for comprehensive testing.
Supporting India’s Automotive Safety
With extensive expertise in test systems deployed across automotive manufacturers and testing authorities worldwide, ZF is well positioned to support India’s ambition of building a world-class, safe and sustainable automotive ecosystem.
As regulatory requirements become more stringent and quality expectations continue to rise, ZF aims to remain the technology partner of choice across the entire value chain, from production testing to vehicle certification.
