Volvo to present trucks with new features at the Hannover show

At the leading international fair for mobility, transport and logistics, Volvo Trucks will be highlighting the newest generation of its Euro 6 engines in connection with all intelligent Volvo I-shift transmission options. The launch of an optimised version of the Volvo FH, the Volvo FH “Performance” special edition and another amazing new feature will also be celebrated at the fair in Germany.

The optimised version of the Volvo FH primarily comprises an improved Euro 6 engine, in combination with the unique Volvo I-shift transmission. The D13 engine now works using a common-rail injector and a higher compression ratio in case of 420 HP and 460 HP sales variants, while the 500 HP and 540 HP sales variants are equipped with a new and improved turbocharger. The revised engine will be integrated into four trucks at the IAA, and will also be displayed as a component. Aerodynamic improvements are also included with the optimised Volvo FH. These, along with many other small changes, lead to overall improved driveability and enhanced fuel efficiency.

With the new Volvo FH “Performance” special edition, Volvo Trucks is setting the industry standard in terms of technology and equipment in the long-haul and tractor unit segment. 540 HP combined with I-shift dual clutch transmission, Volvo Dynamic Steering and independent front suspension guarantees drivers maximum comfort and maximum driving dynamics, as well as the highest level of transport efficiency for haulers. In addition, there is the Globetrotter XL cabin, which is fitted with an exclusive lavishly finished leather trim on the inside and embellished with a large Swedish flag on the outside.

Volvo Trucks will also be presenting the I-shift with crawler gears as an additional I-shift transmission option. The gearbox will be integrated into a Volvo FH16 (8×4), a heavy-duty tractor unit, at the IAA. Thanks to the additional two crawler gears, starting from standstill is possible with a gcw of up to 325 tonnes. The I-shift crawler will also be available to view in a Volvo FH (6×2) swap-body truck unit at the IAA. In these vehicle variants, application-specific manoeuvring work makes it easier to operate at extremely low road speeds that are available in both forward and reverse directions thanks to the crawler gears. This not only increases ride comfort for the driver, but also saves valuable time, protects the material and thereby increases transport efficiency.

Volvo is again approaching the topic of transport efficiency from another angle at the IAA, using the example of a Volvo FM (4×2) tractor unit. Through numerous weight reductions, such as a new extremely light real axle, the vehicle now adds well below 6,000 kilograms of weight to the balance. Volvo Trucks is therefore positioning itself as an expert in the construction of vehicles that are especially optimised for weight.

Additional exhibition vehicles demonstrate that Volvo Trucks is catering to and meeting customer requirements in the heavy-duty trucks segment, and thereby sometimes employing technologies that no other competitor can offer in this segment. A good example of this is the driven axle lift which will be built into a Volvo FH (6×4) tipper tractor unit at the IAA. For empty trips, the rear driven axle can be raised. This saves fuel and reduces wear. The Volvo FL (4×4) is also recommended for off-road use when used as a fire truck. With its all-wheel drive, it even delivers the traction required for fire-fighting in difficult terrains. A Volvo FE (4×2) with a new performance of 350 HP, a refrigerated box and frigoblock unit once again proves how versatile, body-friendly and safe Volvo Trucks vehicle solutions are. There will be another new feature presented at the Volvo Trucks exhibition stand that has currently not been announced yet.

Press conference: Wednesday, 21 September, from 10:20 to 10:45 am, at the Volvo Trucks stand, Hall 17, Stand A05. Speaker: Claes Nilsson, President of Volvo Trucks, and Håkan Agnevall, President of Volvo Buses.
