Volvo Group and Vellore Institute of Technology collaborate to shape future automobile engineers

Furthering its commitment to bridge the gap between academia and industry, Volvo Group India Pvt. Ltd. has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) to enhance automotive education in the country. The collaboration will see the introduction of a specialized credit course within VIT’s MTech program, designed to equip students with the latest automotive industry technologies. The MoU signing ceremony, formalizing this collaborative effort, saw the participation of Kamal Bali, President and Managing Director of Volvo Group India, Dr. T. Jayabarathi (Registrar),Dr. G. Viswanathan (Chancellor) and Dr T.P. Ranjith, Head of Talent Acquisition India.

The cornerstone of this collaboration is the introduction of a specialized credit course within VIT’s MTech program designed to equip students with the latest automotive industry technologies and practical skills, besides offering a comprehensive understanding of industry trends, best practices, and real-world challenges. Program includes knowledge sharing opportunities which could include combined classes involving Volvo’s technical experts along with VIT’s faculty.

Speaking at the occasion, Kamal Bali, President & MD, Volvo Group India said, “We are in the midst of once in a life, eco-system wide transformation in our Industry – where Volvo Group is deploying the latest in emerging technologies and propulsion systems towards our ambition to be Net Zero by 2040 and wherein we strive for a future which is 100% Safe, 100% more productive and 100% fossil-free.

However, no one single stakeholder can shape this future. An eco-system transformation requires collaboration across stakeholders, and this includes collaboration with the academia. With this collaboration with VIT, we aim to nurture talent and create a pipeline of skilled & industry-ready professionals who can drive innovation and excellence – and who in themselves will be the architects & the leaders of the future we are shaping”.

Students enrolled in this program will have the opportunity to participate as interns at Volvo and potentially be hired as post-graduate engineering trainees in the organisation. These internships will allow students to apply their theoretical knowledge in a real-world setting. Moreover, it will also enable them to kickstart their careers in the automotive sector.

This collaboration promises to shape the next generation of automotive leaders, bridging the gap between theory and practice. The program aims to provide a holistic learning environment where students will benefit from the combined expertise of VIT’s faculty and Volvo’s seasoned professionals. Through this joint effort, students will emerge as skilled professionals, ready to contribute to India’s dynamic automotive landscape.
