Volvo CE impresses with electric machines

During Bauma Conexpo India held in New Delhi, Volvo Construction Equipment displayed a diverse range of equipment targeted at the road and retail sectors. The objective was to examine how VCE could collaborate with important stakeholders to alter the direction of Indian infrastructure. Rajesh Rajgor interacted with the company’s Managing Director Dimitrov Krishnan to know more

The highlight of Volvo Construction Equipment (VCE), a leading international manufacturer of premium construction equipment, at Bauma Conexpo India was the EC 55 electric compact excavator. This is a revolutionary product that boasts of incredibly smart features and provides for a smart investment option. The EC 55 electric excavator assures at least 50 per cent reduction in energy costs and over 30 per cent savings in maintenance expenses. It opens up new opportunities for businesses to operate profitably in noise-sensitive areas, low-carbon zones, indoors and other places, and at all odd hours. The EC 55 model will be available by early 2024.

In the course of a chat during the trade fair, Volvo CE India’s Managing Director Dimitrov Krishnan said, “We decided to start the transformation of our industry in India by launching electric products for excavators and loaders. Our intention of bringing these two products from our global plants to India is to start the journey and make customer trials so that the they can be tested in different use cases where they can prove their capability and convince customers who are still unsure how electric vehicles can work.” Also on display was the Volvo EC 200 D crawler excavator with quick coupler plus HB 22 breaker.

Versatility and complete ease in operations are the hallmarks of this all-new variant. Featuring a powerful engine, robust frame and optimised hydraulics, it is eminently suitable for a wide variety of tasks. Alongside these two models was an exhibit of Volvo P 7320 track paver. This is the most recent paver range to be manufactured and launched in India. The unit offers a winning combination of power, production capacity and precision for excellent paving quality with perfectly smooth mats. Fitted with a nine-metre, high-density variomatic screed, the P 7320 D paver offers a marked degree of flexibility when frequently changing paving widths.

With a Volvo fixed screed, this paver has proved to be effective when paving up to 700 tonnes per hour at 9 metres width. This level of throughput makes it versatile enough for a wide range of applications, including city roads, highways and waste storage areas. “The Volvo CE pavilion at Bauma Conexpo India offered visitors an engaging and unique service solution experience, utilising digital and interactive features. We have now launched our Volvo Saathi app, which is for customers to actually log in service complaints with us so that they can get quick responses. We are looking forward to start the journey of transformation in the infrastructure industry,” Dimitrov said.

As a one-stop shop offer, Volvo CE and Volvo Financial Services (VFS) also jointly offered on the spot credit approvals and smart loan and lease solutions during the four-day exhibition for all new VCE products. “We posted good sales in 2022 with market growth of about 15-20 per cent. Our sales have been growing at 20 per cent and so we are very satisfied with what happened in 2022 and 2023. We now expect a strong forthcoming year,” Dimitrov said. Meanwhile, sustainability continues to be a key focus area at VCE. “We are driven by the idea that through imagination, hard work and technological innovation we will lead the way towards developing a world that is cleaner, smarter and more connected,” he added.
