TSRTC’s ambitious plan to increase share of public transport

The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC), operational since June 2015, connects Hyderabad to many other metros in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Goa, Odisha and Chhattisgarh through its inter-city bus services. The company has been growing at a rapid rate since becoming independent from the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) in 2014. It has ambitious plans to expand its share of public transport by the turn of the decade.

Mr. G.V. Ramana Rao, Jt. Managing Director, TSRTC, enlightens MOTORINDIA by eleborating on the Vision 2020: tsrtc-ramanarao“Our Corporation strives to improve its share of public transport by 2020. Currently 90 lakh passengers are travelling by TSRTC buses, and efforts will be made to increase this patronage to one crore passengers a day. With 1,184 villages yet to be connected in the State, our Corporation will endeavor to connect all these villages by 2020 through government support.”

With its share of revenue from AC services at 4.84 per cent of its total traffic revenue at present, TSRTC is targeting to raise this share to 10 per cent in the coming years by expanding the fleet of AC buses. The Corporation plans to grab a market share in the chartered services segment by introducing AC mini-buses wherein booking of chartered services would be made attractive and passenger-friendly by utilizing the latest app-based technology.

TSRTC hopes to increase its share of non-traffic revenue through commercial exploitation of available lands and buildings from the current 6.61 per cent to 15 per cent of its total revenue through aggressive marketing and by bringing in business and entrepreneur-friendly schemes. The Corporation also plans to go in for automatic fare collection systems and smart cards for passengers by adopting suitable technology.

“TSRTC is planning to make use of software technology for scheduling of buses, reducing idle time and improving crew and vehicle productivity for optimum use of resources. The existing software for accounting, ticket accountal system, workshop to depot transactions, inventory management, HR & Welfare would be integrated through ERP systems. All buses will be enabled with passenger information system, real time information on arrival & departures through vehicle tracking systems”, adds Mr. Rao.
