Technology to meet future requirements of off-highway equipment segment

Simpsons, a pioneer in diesel engine manufacturing in India has just celebrated 175 years anniversary – years that have seen innovation and success in this sector resulting in sustainable growth. The company, which began its journey in 1840 building coaches and carriages, developed diesel engines for farm mechanisation in 1950s for the Indian agricultural community.

Today, with its 70 years of rich experience in diesel engines and ability to innovate products for other sectors, the company has been exceeding customers’ expectations.

All along, Simpsons’ mechanical diesel engine variants have been known to OEMs for their reliability, durability and dependability in the utility tractors segment, light construction material handling segment and stationary equipment.

To meet upcoming emission norms TREM4, BS4 CEV in India, Simpsons is bringing its globally-proven common-rail products into the domestic market. The key advantage of common rail engines from Simpsons in Trem4, BS4CEV is that the same footprint can be adopted for TREM5, BS5 CEV that are expected to come into effect in 2025.

Simpsons currently has common rail engines in 3- and 4-cylinder versions in 2.6, 2.7 and 3.6 litre capacity, meeting stringent Tier4F emission norms. This is intended to cover a wider range of the construction equipment segment and support maximising uptime more specifically in commercial machines such as loaders, excavators in the earth moving segment and pavers, concrete mixers in the construction segment, with the company developing solutions for meeting TREM5, BS5 CEV and EU Stage V. The product range will also be extended to 100 kW.

With experience and leadership in the mid-range 20-75 hp segment, Simpsons has also strengthened its lower range in sub-25 hp segment with the new compact series in single- and two-cylinder version which is ideal for compact tractors and construction equipment, lower kVA gensets and smaller size fishing boats.

According to Mr. R. Senthil Kumar, Associate Vice President – Marketing, Simpsons, the upcoming emission norm change is a challenge for the entire diesel engine industry. It will be an opportunity for Simpsons to strengthen its market position as a prime supplier in the diesel engine market.

Simpsons is keen to emerge as one of the top five suppliers of diesel engines for the off-highway segment globally and is continuously upgrading its internal capabilities in-line with international standards to achieve this objective.
