Schenker India striving for sustainable growth

Schenker India is a notable subsidiary of DB Schenker, the transportation and logistics division of the multi-billion euro Deutsche Bahn (DB) Group. A leading name in the field of logistics services, the company offers an array of international air and ocean freight, contract logistics and global supply chain solutions.

The company which entered the Indian market in 1996 has steadily grown and expanded its footprint over the last two decades. Today, it has 37 offices and over 53 warehouses, covering more than two million square feet of warehousing space.

Mr. Oliver Bohm, CEO, Schenker India, discusses the company plan for 2020 and how it intends to go about it. He says: “DB Schenker worldwide has been pursuing the DB 2020+ strategy for overall development, which includes economic, social and environmental aspects.”

The DB Group is known for its special customer and quality focus. It aims to offer world-class eco-friendly mobility and logistics solutions at a global level with the help of a dedicated team. Schenker India plans to become a significant contributor to the organization in all these areas by 2020.

“In India, our DB 2020+ strategy is to become a profitable market leader, top employer, and eco-pioneer by 2020”, adds Mr. Bohm.

Similar to its goals, Schenker India’s roadmap to achieve its vision for 2020 too involves an economic, social and environmental dimension.

On the economic front, the company plans to focus on customers and operational excellence, bring in innovative solutions to develop its core business and improve its overall performance.

On the social front, the company wants to offer a healthy work environment. Mr. Bohm states: “We want to become a top employer in the country. We also want to be part of DB Schenker’s vision of becoming one of the top places to work internationally. It will enable us to attract and retain qualified people who are enthusiastic about working for us and in turn for our customers.”

On the environmental front, the Schenker India wants to set standards in the efficient use of available resources and increase the share of renewable sources. By 2020, the company aims to reduce CO2 emissions from its rail, road, air and ocean transportation by up to 30 per cent compared to 2006. The company is known for its eco-friendly track record, having already reduced its emissions by 24.5 per cent in 2015.
