BS-VI Transition Experience

The transition from BS-IV to BS-VI emission standards was a vital and bold step considering we were skipping one level and leapfrogging to more advanced norms with a revised timeline. India must move ahead towards cleaner automotive technologies and match up to the global standard because of the urgent need to address the growing environmental concerns. The pandemic, in an already slow market, created challenges in the initial rollout of BS-VI vehicles. While the overall vehicle cost increased, the upcoming PLI scheme will incentivize local production, which will help in bringing the cost of the technology down for mass adoption.

We look forward to details on these initiatives and are optimistic that the transition will gain more pace in the coming days. Government initiatives like the recently announced scrappage policy will also give a push in terms of influencing the buyers to opt for new vehicles, thus catalyzing more BS-VI vehicles on the road. Steps like the government-mandated one centimetre green sticker providing registration details in all BS-VI compliant motor vehicles is helping in recognising and promoting the norms among consumers and influencing the buyers.

Current and Upcoming Financial Year

We are on track with the industry trends. There is a rapid increase in the adoption of advanced safety and smart-connected technologies. We will continue to support our customers’ demands post-pandemic with agility and fulfil the requirements by offering innovative technologies at a cost-competitive price. And our ‘in the market, for the market’ strategy will help us achieve this goal, right from product conceptualization and engineering to validation and manufacturing. We are swiftly expanding our research and development capabilities, actively investing in the adoption of Industry 4.0 practices and sustainability initiatives at all our plants.

Traditionally, the manufacturing industry has had an image of consuming valuable resources and generating industrial waste. The future of mobility is now firmly linked to sustainability and our goal is to have a healthy ecosystem for mobility in a comprehensive sense. At the core of all these goals are our people. They are the real enablers of our business vision. One of the top priorities in our long-term strategy is continuous up-skilling and re-skilling of our people.

All along, our learning methodology has been 25 years of formal education, 35 years of work and 20 years of retirement. With radical changes happening within the industry, today’s need is 25 years of formal education and daily learning for the rest of our life to stay relevant. With our specifically designed software academy and skilling programs we are addressing the need for staying relevant and abreast with the changing ecosystem. This apart, we conceptualize the future of work that will very well complement the upcoming trends and requirements.
