PHDCCI’s Global Summit analyses different aspects of Industry 4.0

The Innovation and Startup Committee organised an Industry 4.0 Global Summit in New Delhi on the 6th of December.

Mr. Bharat Mehta, Co-Chairman, Innovation and Startup Committee, explained the nuances of Industry 4.0 which is all about optimization of smart, flexible supply chains, factories and distribution models where machines capture and convey more data via machine-to-machine communications and to human operators. All this aims at enabling businesses to make quicker, smarter decisions, all the while minimizing costs. This, in turn, increases manufacturing productivity, fosters industrial growth and modifies the profile of the workforce.

Industry 4.0 which encompasses a promise of a new industrial revolution – one that marries advanced manufacturing techniques with the Internet of Things to create a digital manufacturing enterprise – is no longer a fad but a reality. In many of the large advanced economies, labor productivity rates have stagnated for years. India can’t afford to repeat that experience, and Industry 4.0 may provide the way out.

The importance of re-skilling the workforce and engineers in India was also stressed by the speakers. Digital tools for the future factory and international practices in implementation and policy design for Industry 4.0 were the other areas of deliberations at the Summit.
