NGK Spark Plugs Co. Ltd. has announced that it will set up an additional plant in India to expand the production capacity of automotive components.
To meet growing demand for spark plugs in the aftermarket and also to meet stricter emission standards for oxygen sensors for motorcycles, Bharat Stage IV (BS6), the company decided to invest in the Indian facility. It aims to optimize its global production efficiency along with this enhancement of production capability in India.
With this investment, it will build an additional unit in the current plant area, strengthen and double the spark plug production capacity by 2018, and start production of oxygen sensors in India. The capital investment will be approximately 1.7 billion yen.
The Indian market is considered as one of the most important for the company medium term business plan. It will further enhance the presence of NGK Spark Plug Group in the expanding market.
