Modular solutions by Faymonville for heavy haulage jobs

The user-friendly operating concept and the variety of combination options make the Faymonville ModulMAX a guarantor of flexibility and economy for the most complex heavy-duty transport jobs

Transporting the heaviest of loads requires outstanding high-tech equipment. In this respect, Faymonville has announced completion of its ModulMAX vehicle range that now includes self-propelled trailers with electronic steering. This variety ensures that users can perform heavy haul projects in the best conditions. The Faymonville ModulMAX is a series of combinable transport modules with 2-6 axle lines for off-road and on-road operations. The vehicles are equipped with 215 | 75 R 17.5” twin tyres and are available in a basic width of 3,000 mm.

Absolute Freedom of Choice

The ModulMAX trailer range includes technical characteristics that are put to multi-disciplinary use for G-Modul, S-Modul and C-Modul series. The transport operator benefits from this freedom of choice to select the modular type that best suits his requirements. There is full liberty that goes into depth as the modular types can be used within three available modes: trailer mode, assist mode and self-propelled mode. The steering system of these products varies between the electronic and mechanical principles. The electronic system with a steering angle of up to plus or minus 140 degrees – proven technology by Cometto – has now been applied to the self-propelled trailer solutions.

The user-friendly operating concept and the variety of combination options make the Faymonville ModulMAX a guarantor of flexibility and economy for the most complex heavy-duty transport jobs. Whether of different low bed types or various kinds of power pack units by Cometto or project planning software, the modular range by Faymonville offers a wide variety of options and accessories to obtain the best configuration for any type of load. All modular trailer types from Faymonville go through a high-level manufacturing process. The robot-welded chassis is subject to an additional processing of all interfaces on an ultramodern CNC drilling machine. For long-term surface protection, Faymonville relies on a fully coordinated and meticulously optimized surface treatment system.

Benefits of Blade Lifter

The blade lifter called BladeMAX can move the latest mega wind turbine blades in such a way that they can be transported safely and efficiently in wooded or built-up areas, through narrow streets or across mountainous regions. Rotor blades can be picked up, raised up to an angle of almost 90 degrees and swivelled and rotated by 360 degrees around their own axis using this adapter, which is mounted on a self-propelled vehicle or between modular axle lines. A third vertical rotary axis can even be integrated as an option, additionally enabling a lateral swivel angle of 20 degrees. This option is frequently selected for use in built-up areas.

A unique feature of the BladeMAX is its patented tilt kinematics. Thanks to this sophisticated levering device, the position of the centre of gravity remains considerably more stable than with conventional devices when the blade is moved from the vertical to the horizontal position. In addition, the overall height of the construction remains quite low due to this method. Greater handling stability is guaranteed by the similarly patented stability control system. The data from diverse sensors are collected and sent to the central control unit, which processes them. All safety-relevant information is constantly monitored. The operator receives a signal as soon as critical values are approached. The tolerance is, however, larger than with previously known systems.

Safety Factor

The interaction of electronics, hydraulics and visualisation increases the safety during the shift of the centre of gravity when moving the blades. Thus, the BladeMAX avoids counterweights adding on several tonnes of weight. The Faymonville Group has pushed forward into a new dimension in wind turbine blade transport with the development of this blade lifter. Rotor blades now reach lengths of well over 70 metres. The new flatbed semi-trailer WingMAX is part of the TeleMAX series and moves such XXL elements safely and economically.

The unique selling point is the interaction of several technical advantages:

• An enormous gooseneck stroke of 1,700 mm.
• The longest available loading platform with four-fold extension.
• A gooseneck length compatible with five-axle trucks.
• Strong 19.5” pendle axles with 60 degrees steering angle and 600 mm stroke.
• Sliding load supports for the blade tip frame enable the semi-trailer to be shortened even under load.
• The strong design using high-tensile steel protects the fragile freight against the effects of external forces.
