Mahindra BLAZO i-TRK: Shifting HCB Buying Towards Profitability

With the BLAZO i-TRK, Mahindra Truck and Bus is moving the heavy commercial vehicle conversation beyond acquisition price, discount and resale towards fuel efficiency, uptime, productivity and intelligent fleet control.

Built around the three promises of Earn More, Run More and Control More, the new HCV combines a 320 hp mPOWER engine, AI-enabled iFuelSmart, iMAXX 2.0 telematics and an industry-first 48-hour Uptime Guarantee.

The heavy commercial vehicle market is entering a phase where operating economics are becoming as important as acquisition price. Mahindra Truck and Bus is attempting to accelerate that shift with the BLAZO i-TRK, positioned as a complete business solution rather than simply another HCV.

Built around the promise of ‘Profit Ka Rocket’, the BLAZO i-TRK combines fuel efficiency, performance, reliability, connected technologies and service assurance. Mahindra says it has the potential to deliver up to ₹15 lakh in additional profit per truck over five years compared with other trucks in the industry, backed by an industry-first 48-hour Uptime Guarantee.

Mr. Vinod Sahay, President – Trucks & Buses, Executive Chairman – SML Mahindra and Member of the Group Executive Board, Mahindra Group, said the HCV opportunity is significant and that Mahindra wants to change how customers evaluate trucks.

Mr. Sahay believes the conventional approach to truck buying is increasingly out of step with modern fleet operations. Acquisition price, discount and resale have traditionally influenced purchasing decisions, but fuel, maintenance, utilisation and downtime have a much larger impact on lifecycle economics.

“People still buy trucks on dated concepts based on acquisition price, discount and resale. All that needs to change because these factors make much less difference to the total operating cost and lifecycle cost of the transporter.”

He believes customers should instead ask which truck can earn more, deliver higher fuel efficiency, provide greater uptime and give the fleet owner better visibility and control. That thinking underpins the BLAZO i-TRK’s three assurances: Earn More, Run More and Control More.

Fuel efficiency is central to the proposition. Mahindra claims up to 10% better fuel efficiency through a combination of hardware and software technologies.

The 7.2-litre mPOWER engine now delivers 320 hp across the BLAZO i-TRK range, with 1,100 Nm of torque across 1,100 to 1,700 rpm. TurboMAXX supports stronger low-end torque and improved airflow, while OptiFuel reduces parasitic losses by disengaging the air compressor once the required pressure is achieved.

The key differentiator is iFuelSmart, described by Mahindra as India’s first AI-enabled automatic drive mode in the HCV segment. It analyses road gradients, payload conditions and driving requirements and automatically selects the optimum operating mode.

The objective is to reduce variability arising from different driving styles. Instead of relying on drivers to select the optimum mode, the vehicle continuously adapts to operating conditions.

Mr. Sahay said, “We have put AI and machine-learning capability into our trucks. The technology can help reduce the variability between drivers and give the fleet owner a more consistent operating outcome.”

The BLAZO i-TRK also gets iMAXX 2.0, Mahindra’s next-generation fleet telematics platform, providing visibility into vehicle health, driver performance, maintenance and operating efficiency. FleetSense reports and ScoreMAXX driver analytics help operators benchmark performance, while air-filter, DPF and Distance-to-Empty alerts support proactive fleet management.

The Run More proposition combines performance, reliability and driver productivity. The truck gets a heavy-duty 430 mm clutch with wear indicator on 9-speed transmission models, while the COMFiMAXX suspended seat, EzyCruise cruise control and factory-fitted AC cabin are designed to improve driver comfort on long-haul operations.

The biggest service differentiator is the industry-first 48-hour Uptime Guarantee. If the vehicle is not put back on the road within 48 hours, customers are eligible for ₹10,000 per day under the applicable terms.

The guarantee is supported by Mahindra Quick Service Points within 75 km on National Highways and 50 km on State Highways. The Parts Supply Guarantee also covers 250 critical parts, with eligible customers entitled to receive the part free if it is not made available within the committed 24-hour period.

Mr. Sahay said the Mahindra-SML Mahindra integration has already created service synergies.

“We now have service touchpoints at every 75 km on National Highways and 50 km on State Highways. Both brands can service each other’s trucks or at least respond in time during emergencies.”

The Control More proposition extends telematics beyond basic vehicle tracking. iMAXX 2.0 includes Remote AC Management and Remote Vehicle Crank Inhibit, along with DPF and air-filter alerts, Distance-to-Empty monitoring, FleetSense reports and ScoreMAXX driver analytics. An optional two-way Driver Monitoring System can monitor driver recognition, seat-belt use and signs of fatigue or drowsiness.

Mahindra has also strengthened the digital service experience through the NOW 24×7 mobile application. Fleet owners can raise and track service requests, request roadside assistance, view breakdown-van location, access service history, book appointments, order spare parts and follow digital approvals and service updates.

The proposition also includes customised long-term mCARE Annual Maintenance Contracts and Extended Warranty plans, including 6Y/6L and 8Y/8L options, with extended warranty options for tippers.

The integration of SML Mahindra gives Mahindra an opportunity to combine complementary strengths. Mr. Sahay noted that SML Mahindra products are known for reliability, while Mahindra products have been known for fuel efficiency. Bringing these capabilities together, he believes, can create a stronger proposition across trucks and buses while enabling the teams to leverage each other’s product-development strengths.

The wider BLAZO i-TRK package also includes Mahindra’s INTELLICORE design philosophy, combining functional engineering with a driver-focused cabin. The truck is aerokit-ready, with factory-engineered provisions intended to simplify aerodynamic upgrades and support improved fuel efficiency while avoiding problems associated with conventional aftermarket modifications.

The BLAZO i-TRK’s proposition ultimately goes beyond horsepower, mileage or connectivity in isolation. It links these features to a broader business objective: improving the transporter’s profitability across the ownership lifecycle.

For Mr. Sahay, the bigger change must come in the customer’s decision-making process.

“The decision criteria now needs to move on which truck can earn you more, which can give you higher fuel efficiency and hence save you money, which can give you higher uptime, and which can give you full visibility of your business.”

With the BLAZO i-TRK, Mahindra is therefore attempting to shift HCV buying from the lowest acquisition price towards stronger lifecycle economics. Its combination of AI-enabled fuel optimisation, 320 hp performance, uptime assurance, connected fleet control and digital service is designed to make the truck not merely a transport asset, but a more productive and profitable business tool.
