KSPG Group products for display at SIAT 2013

MI-Jan-13-small-108_1One of the most important locations of the auto industry on the Indian sub-continent is the Pune region where world experts would be getting together for the 13 edition of the Symposium on International Automotive Technology (SIAT) to be held from January 9 to 12.

The KSPG Group will be among the major participants in the conference and the concurrent exposition.

For the KSPG Group with its two production and sales locations in the Pune region, SIAT is an important platform to show trade visitors locally produced engineering highlights along with new and forward-reaching development projects.

At SIAT, the group will be presenting emission-reduction components such as electric and pneumatic exhaust gas recirculating valves and exhaust gas flaps as well as different types of plain bearings.

MI-Jan-13-small-108_2Besides state-of-the-art high-duty pistons, on display will be vacuum pumps plus variable-flow and electric water and oil pumps which contribute toward reduced fuel consumption and hence lower CO2 emissions.

A major highlight among the exhibits is a range extender. Range extenders are used in periods between recharging cycles and extend the range of electrically powered vehicles. They alleviate “range anxiety,” a phenomenon not to be underestimated when introducing electric mobility.

From a technical standpoint, a range extender amounts to an additional power unit, in most cases a combustion engine which drives a generator, which in turn powers the battery and electric motor.

MI-Jan-13-small-109_2KSPG has in recent months developed a small, compact, 30-kilowatt range extender that has meanwhile undergone trials in a Fiat 500 and is impressive for its performance and NVH properties.

For many years, KSPG has been present on the Indian market, and since 2007 has had, together with Pierburg India Private Ltd., a subsidiary directly in Pune, besides operating a production location at nearby Takwe. This is where the group produces, besides plain bearings, components for emission control as well as pumps for the Indian automotive industry.

MI-Jan-13-small-109_1For many years now, the group has also had a 20 per cent stake in the piston producer Shriram Pistons & Rings Ltd., New Delhi, and a licensee agreement with Jaya Hind Industries Ltd., likewise located in Pune, for development and production of cylinder heads, engine blocks, bedplates, and other castings.

SIAT staged every other year is devoted to advanced engineering automotive topics. Pune is one of the most important locations of the Indian auto industry, and almost all the major auto groups and their suppliers are represented here with production plants. Fuelling this boom is the flourishing Indian automotive market.
