Women of Mettle – Jaya Jamrani

Jaya Jamrani, Vice President – Marketing, Castrol India

It’s in her DNA to be a happy person who facilitate things to reach their natural fruition. In 38 years of her life, she is yet to face an ‘intimidating’ issue. Jaya Jamrani, Vice President – Marketing, Castrol India is big believer in delivering one’s best in all situations, says Sarada Vishnubhatla.

This MBA from IIM-Lucknow is a passionate traveler, a travel blog writer, music lover and has worked towards empowering rural women. Born in Jodhpur, Rajasthan to an academically-oriented parents, Jaya Jamrani and her younger brother grew up in an ambience that was replete with science, literature, and music.

She learnt at a young age from her father the importance of listening to one’s heart and doing what gives one joy. Having worked at Castrol India for more than 11 years now, Jaya has been able to put that value to work.

Jaya shares: “I enjoy what I do. I work to leave a positive impact on our stakeholders that is beyond business value. I strongly believe that each one of us has the capability to do just that.” She continues: “I do want to be remembered for the difference that we bring to our brand, the livelihoods we have been able to create, the hearts we have touched – be that of a consumer, trucker, mechanic or even our team members. All that matters is the change I may have brought into peoples’ lives.”

One of the strong points that Jaya possesses is her ability to build long-term relationships with people and create synergies with them.

She elaborates on her strengths: “As a marketing professional, I am exposed to an abundance of information and data. I believe that I have the ability to arrive at the crux of the matter and derive crucial insights from it. My strength lies in the fact that I am comfortable in my skin.”

Work and life balance is something that Jaya achieves by scheduling for the day and sticking to it to fulfill her responsibilities and also squeeze in a bit of ‘me time’. She values the fact that it is absolutely normal to seek help when needed whether in professional or personal life.

She explains: “I have learned this gem from my mentors and by watching people. Since then, I have not shied away from asking for help when needed and it has only helped me get stronger and learn more as an individual.”

Jaya believes that success cannot be achieved without empathy and this belief has granted her a deep understanding of why people behave in a certain way.

She feels: “Marketing is a good balance of science and art. Most often, creativity is born out of one’s daily routine of looking at data, insights, meeting people, and the spark can ignite at any moment. But as a leader, it is imperative to cultivate empathy for people by giving them enough time, space and encouragement.”

Jaya keeps her eyes peeled and ears open for the ‘voice that needs to be heard’. For one who considers marketing her calling, Jaya Jamrani believes in paying it forward – if she has learned from great mentors, she has also nurtured talent.

And, that is the mark of a happy and driven person who ‘facilitates’ the same in others.
