Hydrogen Valley Power Positions Taiwan in the Global Hydrogen Vehicle Market

Michael Hsieh, Executive Vice President of Hydrogen Valley Power Co., Ltd

At the recent Taiwan 360 Mobility Show, Hydrogen Valley Power Co., Ltd. took center stage to demonstrate the future of green transportation. As the only team in Taiwan with proven experience in developing hydrogen-powered vehicles exceeding five tons, the company is actively redefining the commercial transit and heavy-vehicle sectors.

At the core of the company’s showcase are their hydrogen city and intercity buses. Having already co-developed Taiwan’s first dedicated hydrogen bus chassis with a global manufacturer, the company’s first hydrogen city bus is currently in France undergoing rigorous UNR134 safety testing.

Michael Hsieh, Executive Vice President of Hydrogen Valley Power Co., Ltd, explained how the company distinguishes itself through seamless technological integration:

“Our core technology lies in combining hydrogen systems, including Toyota fuel cells and high-pressure tanks, with key components like the Power Distribution Unit (PDU). We then use our proprietary Vehicle Control Unit (VCU) to optimize both battery control and overall performance for longer distances.”

With a strong focus on Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) initiatives, Hydrogen Valley Power is aiming to decarbonize the heavy transit industry. Their heavy-duty vehicles utilize AI smart ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) while offering a completely clean alternative to traditional fossil fuels.

“Hydrogen vehicles are the perfect solution for transit companies looking to replace their heavy diesel fleets. During operation, our products produce zero emissions, emitting nothing but water and heat,” he stated.

Despite their rapid technological advancements, the shift toward hydrogen mobility is not without its hurdles. Hsieh noted that the current infrastructure requires development, but the company views this as a window for further innovation.

“The main challenge we face is the lack of hydrogen refuelling stations in Taiwan, and we are actively providing feedback to the government to improve this. However, this also gives us the opportunity and time to further refine our vehicle technologies.”

While solidifying their presence in Taiwan, Hydrogen Valley Power is aggressively looking toward global expansion. Encouraged by supply chain partners like motor manufacturer TECO, the company is actively seeking international collaborations to scale its operations.

“We are highly interested in expanding into the Indian market. Because we specialize strictly in the development of the chassis and the hydrogen systems, we are actively looking to partner with vehicle body frame manufacturers in the region,” he noted.

Beyond mobility, Hydrogen Valley Power is leveraging its comprehensive upstream and downstream supply chain expertise to address broader industrial energy challenges. They are currently diversifying their product line to include robust stationary energy solutions.

“Looking ahead, Hydrogen Valley Power will actively invest in the development of hydrogen power generation systems. As power supply stability becomes an increasingly important concern for Taiwan’s industrial sector, our hydrogen power generation systems can serve as a clean and reliable backup power source, enhancing energy resilience and ensuring uninterrupted operations for manufacturers,” he concluded.
