Germany remains world champion in exports: IGCC Director-General

Chamber-Würth MoU for professional management training signed

The Indo-German Training Centre (IGTC), an educational and training initiative of the Indo-German Chamber of Commerce (IGCC), conducts a unique, industry-focused post graduate program in business administration (PGPBA) based on the German Dual Education System. At IGTC, students are groomed to meet managerial challenges posed by changing business environment.

Spread over 18 months, the program is divided into four theory phases at the centre extending for 12 months and practical training phases in German and Indian companies for six months. This program is a perfect blend of theoretical learning and practical application of learnt concepts and theories.

Since India has emerged one of the fastest growing nations with its ever-expanding manufacturing and service activities, proper training of skilled manpower is considered very essential. In order to address this issue, the Würth Group of Germany recently signed an MoU with IGTC for a professional management training programme in Chennai based on the German Dual Educational System. The objective here is to dynamically develop the employees of the company to enable them face the challenges and contribute their ideas and creativity towards promotion of the company achievements as part of its corporate culture.

The MoU was signed between Mr. Bernhard Steinruecke, IGCC Director General, and Mr. Benjamin Würth, Head of Business Development Asia, Würth Group, at a special function organised in Chennai.

Addressing the function, Mr. Steinruecke said IGTC has been offering training in India for many years, and the MoU just signed was another milestone in the Chamber’s activities. No wonder, the success of the German companies with a population of just 80 million in that country is mainly attributed to four basic functions, i.e., the performance of German SMEs, the occasional training system, organisation of world renowned trade fairs in Germany and well-designed activities of the Chamber. All this has contributed in a large measure to Germany becoming a world champion in exports for the seventh consecutive year.

Mr. Benjamin Würth made a detailed presentation on the Würth Group and its success story. Though the group was started in a humble way in 1945 as a family concern, it has today become one of the most successful German SMEs with its special focus on delivering world standard products. However, the growth has also come through people’s education. Today, with 415 companies in 84 countries around the world, Würth has an employee strength of 66,000 and delivers one lakh products. It has its vision to become a 20 billion EUR turnover company by 2020 as compared to 9.7 billion EUR achieved in 2011.

Referring to the increasing sales in the Asian region, particularly in India, he said that, even though Germany accounts for maximum sales revenue of 45.7 per cent, the Asian market with only a 4.5 per cent share offers immense opportunities for the company’s future growth. Keeping this in mind, the company is all set to establish a major warehousing centre in Chennai by next year. With this expansion and new initiatives in India, Würth is planning to achieve a 1 billion EUR sales mark by 2020 compared to the current 38 million EUR. Würth is also a major supplier of parts to different auto OEMs such as Daimler, Volkswagen and Audi, all of them having their special focus on India.

Mr. Sai Prasad. V, Managing Director, Reinhold Wuerth India Pvt. Ltd., in his brief address, said it is simply exciting that Würth has committed itself to train manpower extensively, and through this MoU with IGTC, the company can benefit a lot by offering the required training for developing the managerial skill of the Indian staff.

Earlier, Mr. S. Raj, Regional Director, IGCC, in his welcome address, outlined the growing activities of the Chamber in India.
