Eicher’s expanding role in road safety education for school children

Eicher has been actively involved in road safety initiatives by actively participating in the National Road Safety Week every year at various locations in the country in association with RTOs, local government authorities and other agencies involved in road safety promotion.

This year Eicher participated in the Road Safety Education for school children organised in Vijayawada by the Andhra Pradesh Lorry Owners Association (APLOA) and the Voluntary Health Education & Economic Development Unit (VHEEDU), Vijayawada. These two organizations launched a campaign, “Safe to School – Safe to Home”, three months ago to promote road safety among school children. Under the campaign an essay competition on “the Role of Students in Road Safety” was conducted. A total of 10,111 children from 64 schools from Krishna and Guntur districts participated in the competition. Prizes were distributed for the best three writers among them. Besides, the best three essay writers from each school were also given prizes.

The concluding function of the campaign was held on January 22 as part of the National Road Safety Week which was inaugurated by Mr. Gopal Naidu, President of APLOA, Mr. P. Srinivas, Addl. Transport Commissioner, Government of Andhra Pradesh, was the chief guest on the occasion.

Other prominent personalities who attended the function included Mr. A.S. Khan, Dy. Commissioner of Police, Vijayawada, Mr. Shivalingaiah, Dy. Transport Commissioner, Krishna (Vijayawada), Mr. Y.V. Eswara Rao, General Secretary, APLOA, Mrs. Neelima Devi, Partner, Ramcor, Vijayawada, Mr. M. Phani Babu of ITC, Mr. P. Ramesh, President, Krishna Lorry Owners Association, Mr. Vasu, Executive Director of VHEEDU, and Mr. A. Nandakumar of Eicher.

Eicher took the opportunity to launch the “Eicher Road Safety Champ” programme, specially designed for interactive road safety education for school children. This Eicher example will be followed in other schools in Vijayawada in association with APLOA and VHEEDU.
