Continental introduces 5-inch TFT displays for Indian CV industry

Continental-pic-1Continental has introduced the 5-inch thin-film transistor (TFT) display technology for the commercial vehicle segment in India. Displays using this technology are already the norm in vehicle cockpits. With Continental, this successful product now enters the CV segment, marking a new chapter in the company’s 111-year history of successful instrumentation production.

The TFT technology is growing popular among commercial vehicle manufacturers worldwide, with its benefits ranging from navigation and vehicle user interfaces to entertainment. Continental’s 5-inch TFT display, specially designed for commercial vehicles, will facilitate better information management coupled with high definition image quality while the vehicles are in motion or parked.

Dr. Christian Neumann, Head of Business Unit Commercial Vehicles and Aftermarket (CVAM), India, says: “The commercial vehicle industry in India is going through a major evolution, with technological advancement being one of the key drivers of growth. The availability of better information management solutions will further drive this transformation. In India, the prevalence of smart phones has made TFT screens ubiquitous. From passenger cars to commercial vehicles, TFT technology is seeing a logical progression. Continental expects its rapid adoption by OEMs and fleet owners in the coming years.”

By adopting advanced solutions like TFT, OEMs are following a trend in the truck and bus market towards larger displays with better color and higher definition. Another visible trend in commercial vehicle instrumentation is inclusion of a secondary screen for displaying optional content like images from the ProViu camera system. While the global CV industry has witnessed these trends in the recent past, such technologies are now making inroads into India at a faster pace than before.
