Country’s first 205T Electric Drive rear dump truck introduced
Bengaluru-based Indian public sector undertaking Bharat Earth Movers Ltd. (BEML) is one of the leading manufacturers of mining dump trucks in India. It is perhaps the pioneer of OHTs in the country, manufacturing rear dump trucks of mid to heavy range under license from leading global OEMs since the pre-liberalisation era.
Speaking to MOTORINDIA on BEML’s OHT business, Mr. B.R. Viswanatha, Director – Mining and Construction, said: “Post-liberalisation, we started to focus more on mid-size dumpers of 100 tons (US) and below. At present, we offer rear dump trucks with maximum payload of 35, 40, 60, 100, 150, and 205 ton (US)”. He added that the mining industry is moving towards more sophisticated equipment in recent times, resulting in increased preference for high-end trucks.
The OEM is targeting more of the private mining sector lately, extending its strong presence with State-owned mining companies. “We are promoting dumpers and off-highway water sprinkler trucks in a big way to private players, who seek high-tech machines with enhanced productivity”, said the Director, while claiming that BEML boasts a fantastic service network pan India.
The company is into direct marketing, without any dealers or distributors, with the help of 12 regional offices and 15 district offices. BEML offers on-site customer support for technical and maintenance issues for clients owning over 7-8 machines.
The new flagship dumper from BEML, the BH205E-AC, is aimed to cater to the growing demand for higher capacity equipment in the mining industry. It features AC electric drive system developed by GE, sourcing power from 2,300 hp Cummins common-rail diesel engine. The AC drive provides for exceptional haul performance and reduced maintenance, along with superior efficiency compared to mechanical drive technology.
