ATG’s expansion plan to meet growing tyre demand

The Alliance Tire Group (ATG) factory at Tirunelveli which was recently visited by the media team from Chennai proved an eye opener for them, thanks to the excellent CSR initiatives taken by the company.

Though located in a remote area of the SIPCOT Centre, ATG never slackened in its efforts to fully meet the needs of the employees as well as the society.

According to Mr. Anil Gupta, Chief Operating Officer, ATC Tires Pvt. Ltd., the company has a highly motivated workforce taking a lot of interest in providing solutions.

Currently, ATG has a 2,000-strong workforce operating 24/7.

The 100 years of Yokohama’s Japanese experience and 10 years of ATG’s Indian background have led to a successful synergy partnership in the tyre industry.

Since quality is always the first priority for any Japanese organisation, ATG too remains quality conscious by delivering world-class products.

For this, vigorous training has been provided to the ATG workers in Japan, particularly in the areas of safety, quality and environment.

Ever since, Yokohama took over ATG, continuous improvement is taking place at all levels, with the ultimate ATG vision of emerging a global market leader in agriculture, forestry, construction and material handling tyre segments.

Mr. P.N. Rajendran, Vice President – Operations, ATC Tires Pvt. Ltd., informed the media that the plant produces a wide range of tyres, including for agricultural operations, construction and off-road vehicles, which are fully exported to different parts of the world.

Currently, the Tirunelveli plant is working on expansion of the annual tyre production capacity from 90,000 tonnes of tyres to 1,01,000 tonnes. It also has plans to expand the overall annual production capacity to 2,30,000 tonnes of tyres with a $100 million investment.

Mr. B. Muthu Venkatesan, Deputy General Manager – CI & IMS, ATC Tires Pvt. Ltd., said that, with continuous improvement in overall plant activities, it maintains a high level of both product safety and quality.

In order to increase production with lean manufacturing, the ATG management has created ‘My Machine Concept’ towards which the workers will strive by sharing their innovative ideas at the shop floor. During January-September 2018, the company received 804 innovative ideas from the workers, of which 70% have already been put into operation.
