I started Prabha Industries in 1970. In the 70s & 80s we could distinguish ourselves by taking up development of components for Ashok Leyland that were previously imported – like engine timing back plates and drive train components, as these required innovative engineering process development.
In the subsequent decades, to use Ashok Leyland’s terminology, we served as their “extended arm” with early involvement in development work for projects like vestibule bus, hippo dumpers, factory installed load bodies, tipper bodies and various models of cowls, front end structures, cabins and canopies. Such development work would reflect in some form in volume product, sometimes years later based on market preferences. And sometimes more immediately, as we saw with development work during the pandemic, where concurrent engineering helped bring products to market very fast.
Our facilities are typically located close to AL’s plants, with a lot of focus on manufacturing equipment and integration of processes in our shop floor. Today we are proud to supply to all of Ashok Leyland’s vehicle assembly plants. My hearty congratulations and best wishes to Ashok Leyland on this incredibly significant 75-year milestone.

As Ashok Leyland marks a monumental 75 years of excellence and innovation, we at Alkraft take immense pride in being a part of this illustrious journey. Our relationship with Ashok Leyland has enabled us to learn, evolve and grow significantly, and is one of the defining relationships of our own history.
Reflecting on this shared journey, three pivotal moments stand out. In the early 2000s, we embarked on a project that would test our limits and expand our capabilities when we had to develop Charge Air Coolers for a large defense truck order. The stakes were high, and so were the expectations. We designed a product with an intricate core geometry that surpassed the high performance benchmarks at the cost target set by Ashok Leyland. The success of this project not only fortified our relationship, but also reinforced our belief in our ability to tackle complex challenges.
The mid-2000s brought forth another memorable chapter when we undertook value engineering initiatives for BS3 and BS4 models with the introduction of the ‘B-Type’ tube, the genesis of which was an innovative Folded Tube technology developed in 2003 for the first time in the world. We developed a core geometry that mirrored the performance of a 57 mm core within leaner 44 mm and 36 mm profiles, giving the product the best performance-to-weight ratio in the industry. It was another proud moment for us when Ashok Leyland widely implemented this design in their best-performing models.
The third event was during the transition to BS6 which necessitated a technological leap in many ways. Collaborating with the technical team at Ashok Leyland, we designed a high-performance cooling system with a novel design and a wider aspect ratio among many other design improvements. This product was pivotal in meeting the stringent BS6 emission norms and higher durability standards. It was extremely satisfying to note that this new product achieved 100% on-field reliability and target life expectancy.
These instances are just a few among many that underscore what we have been able to achieve working with Ashok Leyland, ensuring that each solution we deliver is not just a component, but a competitive advantage.
