ARAI becomes India’s first test agency to offer full vehicle cybersecurity testing and homologation

The Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) says it is the first test agency in India to offer full-spectrum vehicle cybersecurity services under one roof. These cover testing, verification and validation, research and development, and homologation for vehicles and their electronic systems.

The agency says the capability responds to the growth of connected, software-defined vehicles, where cybersecurity has become central to safety and regulatory compliance. It supports manufacturers in showing compliance with the AIS-189 (Cyber Security Management System) and AIS-190 (Software Update Management System) requirements.

Beyond these standards, ARAI has developed facilities for XiL-based cybersecurity evaluation and V2X testing. Its services include vulnerability assessment and penetration testing, validation of threat analysis and risk assessment reports, development of hardware and software security modules, and tracking of known vulnerabilities (CVE records). The facility can assess whole vehicles, electronic control units, connected systems and other electronic components.

ARAI says the laboratory gives the Indian industry domestic infrastructure, reducing the need to seek specialised assessments abroad. ARAI Director Dr. Reji Mathai said the integrated capability will help manufacturers and suppliers develop and validate more secure automotive systems, and support self-reliance and a shift towards safer, smarter and more secure mobility.
