29th Road Safety Week emphasis on greater awareness of safety among drivers

The 29th Road Safety Week 2018 observed in Chennai recently has generated greater awareness of safe driving among road users, particularly truck drivers. Jointly organized by the Tamilnadu Lorry Owners Federation, Tamilnadu Edible Oil Tanker Lorry Owners Welfare Association and Chennai Local Lorry Owners Association, the meet was well attended. The credit for the successful conduct of the Road Safety Week went to Mr. R. Sugumar, President and Project Director of the Confederation of Surface Transport – Tamilnadu, who took special care to see that the function went off well.

Welcoming the gathering, Mr. Sugumar said that though the Road Safety Week is organised by the State Government every year, this year the Confederation was particular that the function was conducted on a much larger scale than before.

The meet this year also attracted an unusual large number of drivers and school students who expressed their steadfast commitment to follow the road safety rules and regulations. The event had the backing of leading firms like Ashok Leyland, Parveen Automobiles, TVS, Apollo Tyres, Shriram Transport Finance, etc.

All united to generate greater road safety awareness

Vinesh Kumar, Assistant General Manager, T V Sundram Iyengar & Sons Private Ltd., Mr. James Richard. S, Executive Asst. to CMD, NTC Group, Mr. Mohammed A. Sadiq, Managing Director, Parveen Automobiles (P) Ltd., Mr. P.S. Siva Kumar, Assistant Engineer, IRT, Gummudipoondi, Mr. D. Janakiraman, Secretary, Tamil Nadu Edible Oil Tanker Lorry Owner’s Welfare Association, Mr. P. Rajasekaran, Vice-President, Chennai Local Lorry Owners Association, and Mr. G. Gunasekar, President, All India Drivers Forum.

The event also witnessed distribution of road safety stickers, a massive signature campaign, road safety oath taking, sharing of innovative activities to promote road safety, etc.
