As India’s largest commercial vehicle manufacturer, Tata Motors continues to strengthen its leadership by offering a comprehensive portfolio of rigid trucks, tippers, ready-mix concrete (RMC) solutions, and prime movers. Engineered for demanding applications across industries, these vehicles are designed to deliver high productivity, superior fuel efficiency, lower total cost of ownership, and long-term durability. Built on robust chassis with rugged aggregates, the vehicles are tailored to provide unmatched reliability.
Safety remains a central pillar of Tata Motors’ strategy – anchored on both active and passive safety systems.
On the active safety front, Tata Motors became the first OEM in India to introduce a truck equipped with Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) in 2022. Reinforcing its focus on technology-led safety, the company recently received certification from the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) for key models in the Prima range, meeting comprehensive ADAS safety standards. These models feature advanced technologies such as Collision Mitigation Systems, Lane Departure Warning, and Driver Monitoring Systems, which enhance driver situational awareness and offer real-time alerts to help prevent accidents.
“Safety in commercial vehicles can no longer be reactive. At Tata Motors, we are embedding intelligence into every vehicle so that it actively supports the driver and reduces risk in real time,” said Rajesh Kaul, Vice President and Business Head – Trucks, Tata Motors Commercial Vehicles.
In addition to ADAS, Tata Motors’ broader product lineup integrates several active safety technologies including Electronic Stability Control, Tyre Pressure Monitoring Systems (TPMS), Hill Hold Assist, and Reverse Parking Sensors. These features work together to reduce risks and enhance vehicle control across varied road and load conditions.

Passive safety is addressed through advanced cabin engineering, improved structural integrity, and ergonomic design – particularly beneficial for long-haul operations. The company now complies fully with the revised AIS:29 standards, ensuring higher levels of occupant protection and cabin safety, aligned with upcoming regulatory requirements.
For the construction and mining sectors, the company’s Construck range offers safety-specific features like traction control, engine braking, and vertical exhausts, which ensure cleaner and safer operations on rugged terrains. Notably, Tata Motors has also extended anti-lock braking systems (ABS) to its prime mover range – delivering integrated braking safety from truck head to trailer.

Tata Motors also continues to strengthen its digital backbone through Fleet Edge, the company’s connected vehicle platform. With over eight lakh vehicles registered and an 80% monthly active user rate, Fleet Edge provides real-time insights into vehicle health, driver behavior, and predictive maintenance. This enables fleet operators to make data-driven, safety-focused decisions that improve uptime and reduce incident risks.
Recognizing that vehicle safety is only as effective as the driver behind the wheel, Tata Motors places significant emphasis on driver training and education. Through its Institutes of Driving, Training and Research (IDTRs) – run in partnership with the Government of India – the company offers structured programs on advanced driving techniques, road safety, and responsible driving practices.
“Along with technology, we strongly believe in empowering drivers with the knowledge and skills to navigate today’s complex road conditions. Safer roads begin with safer drivers,” added Kaul.
Further expanding its impact, Tata Motors recently launched a nationwide campaign that integrates technology, driver welfare, education, and shared accountability – underscoring the belief that safer roads require not just better trucks, but also better-informed drivers.
Together, these initiatives underline Tata Motors’ comprehensive and sustained commitment to elevating safety benchmarks – creating safer roads, more intelligent fleets, and a responsible, future-ready transport ecosystem for India.
