Quality remains the single most critical contributor to the success of any product. With this premise, the National Institution for Quality & Reliability (NIQR) was established to promote quality excellence. The institute plays a vital role in the ecosystem by organising regular events for professionals from both the manufacturing and service sectors, spanning production, quality, maintenance and supply chain functions.

Recently, NIQR organised the Dr. Kazuyuki Suzuki Endowment Lecture, delivered by Dr. V. Swaminathan, Director – VSAM Associates and a key driving force behind the globally renowned institute. In his presentation titled ‘Pragmatic Approach to Policy Management’, Dr. Swaminathan emphasised the importance of quality improvement, underlining that it must be driven by vision, passion and action.
Mr. N. Prasanna Kumar, VP and Head – Central Quality – Ashok Leyland Limited, who was the Chief Guest, noted that the company initially believed the Deming Award could be achieved in a short time, but the journey proved far more demanding. Only after rigorous and sustained improvements in operational quality was Ashok Leyland able to win the prestigious Deming Award. He added that the recognition also helped accelerate the organisation’s globalisation efforts.
Earlier, Mr. Vidya Shankar Krishnan, National President – NIQR, welcomed the gathering and highlighted the institute’s various initiatives and activities.
On the occasion, Mr. S. Murali Shankar, Past President – NIQR, honoured fellowship members, the President and ex officio members for their significant contributions to the institution.

Concluding the event, Mr. R. SethuRaman, National Secretary – NIQR and Head – Supplier Quality Excellence, Central Quality – Ashok Leyland, thanked members for their strong participation and continued support. Among the many organisations involved, Ashok Leyland remains at the forefront of India’s quality movement.
