Indofast Energy has entered into a strategic partnership with Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MMRCL) to establish an extensive network of 23 battery-swapping stations along the Mumbai Metro Aqua Line 3 corridor. The collaboration marks a major step towards integrating mass rapid transit with sustainable last-mile mobility, aimed at making electric transport more accessible and convenient for millions of daily commuters in the city.

As part of the partnership, Indofast Energy will deploy battery-swapping infrastructure across eight key stations on the Aqua Line 3 route—Aarey JVLR, SEEPZ, MIDC, Santacruz Metro, Bandra Kurla Complex, Dharavi, Worli and Acharya Atre Chowk. The stations will cater to electric two-wheelers, three-wheelers and small commercial vehicles, enabling seamless transitions between metro travel and electric last-mile transport. The initiative is expected to benefit delivery partners, ride-hailing drivers and daily commuters who rely on the north–south metro corridor for regular travel.
Commenting on the partnership, Mr. Anant Badjatya, CEO of Indofast Energy, said the collaboration represents a shift in how urban mobility ecosystems are being planned. He noted that integrating battery-swapping stations directly with metro infrastructure addresses last-mile connectivity challenges while making electric mobility the most practical choice for city commuters.
From the metro operator’s perspective, the partnership aligns with broader sustainability goals. Mr. R. Ramana, Director (Planning), MMRCL, said the initiative would help build a better-connected transport network for Mumbai by encouraging commuters to adopt electric vehicles for short-distance travel. He added that battery-swapping stations at metro stations would contribute to reducing congestion and pollution, while reinforcing Mumbai Metro’s focus on smooth and eco-friendly mobility.
Indofast Energy currently operates 19 battery-swapping stations in Mumbai, including its 1,000th station at Lokmanya Tilak Terminus. The new partnership with MMRCL will significantly expand this footprint, creating one of the densest battery-swapping networks in any Indian metro city. Each station will be equipped with Indofast Energy’s automated swapping technology, designed to support multiple vehicle types on a common battery platform—a capability the company says is unique at a global level. The fast-swap model is expected to eliminate range anxiety and charging downtime, making EVs more practical for everyday commuting and last-mile logistics.
The collaboration further strengthens Indofast Energy’s role as a key enabler of sustainable urban mobility. The company already works with vehicle and mobility partners such as Zypp, Omega Seiki Mobility, Shadowfax, Triev, Wickedride, Green Drive, Eveez, Hala Mobility, Rapido, Whizz, bluwheelz and Loadshare, along with infrastructure partners including IOCL, Indian Railways, BESCOM, and metro rail systems such as Namma Metro and Hyderabad Metro.
Nationwide, Indofast Energy operates a network of over 1,125 battery-swapping stations and has enabled more than 43 million battery swaps to date. These swaps have supported electric vehicles in covering approximately 1.17 billion kilometres, helping avoid an estimated 62,000 metric tonnes of tailpipe CO₂ emissions. Through its partnership with MMRCL, the company aims to further scale this impact by embedding electric mobility deeper into Mumbai’s public transport ecosystem.
