The world has been transforming at an unprecedented pace, particularly over the last decade. Against this backdrop, India must shift its focus from merely managing quality to leading through quality. These remarks were made by Mr. S. Viji, Chairman – Sundaram Finance Ltd. and Executive Vice Chairman – Brakes India, during his keynote address at the NIQR 18th Global Quality Convention 2025 and Award Presentation function in Chennai.
According to Mr. Viji, quality leadership is about much more than compliance. It requires visionary thinking, meeting customer needs, treating challenges as opportunities, encouraging workforce upskilling, investing in leadership programmes, building robust two-way communication channels, and demonstrating resilience to rebound in the face of setbacks.
Sharing his organisation’s approach, Mr. Viji noted, “At Brakes India, we focus on balancing speed with deployment.” He cited several case studies from the pandemic period, highlighting how the company successfully adopted its ADAPT method to ensure smooth digital transformation. He further explained that both TQM and TPM practices have been deeply embedded across Brakes India’s operations, enabling the company to advance to the next level in quality and design engineering.
