Delhi Public School 84 & Eicher’s shared commitment to safe & seamless student mobility

Lt. Cdr. (Ms.) Vijay Chaudhary (Retd.), Principal, DPS Sector 84, Gurugram

Delhi Public School (DPS), one of India’s most renowned educational institutions, places student safety and operational excellence at the core of its transport system. With a strong partnership with Eicher, DPS has built a fleet that blends safety, comfort, technology, and sustainability — ensuring peace of mind for parents and a reliable and comfortable commute for students every day. We find out more in this exclusive interaction with Lt. Cdr. (Ms.) Vijay Chaudhary (Retd.), Principal of DPS Sector 84, Gurugram.

At DPS Sector 84, the transport fleet is not just a logistical asset but a critical part of the school’s daily operations and student well-being. “We operate a fleet of over 18 school buses, covering key urban and suburban areas. A significant portion of our fleet – approximately 80% – comprises Eicher buses, selected for their reliability, safety features, and prompt and consistent service support,” shares Lt. Cdr. Chaudhary. The choice of Eicher as a preferred partner ensures consistency in quality and performance, which is crucial when dealing with the daily movement of hundreds of students.

The focus on safety is unwavering. DPS has adopted high-visibility interiors, fire-retardant materials, and clearly marked emergency exits across its fleet. “Eicher buses have played a pivotal role in elevating the safety standards of our daily school commute. Features such as child-specific ergonomic seating and compliance with all school bus safety regulations have made a tangible difference,” she emphasises. These measures are not just compliance checkboxes but critical enablers of trust in school operations.

Leveraging Technology and Training for Peace of Mind

Technology plays a key role in modernising school transport, and DPS is leading by example. CCTV cameras, GPS tracking, and app-based monitoring have redefined how parents and staff perceive and interact with the transport system. “Integration of features such as CCTV cameras, GPS tracking, and app-based live bus monitoring has not only streamlined communication but also helped build a transparent and trust-based relationship with parents. It is quite comforting to know the location of the vehicle,” says the Principal. These tools are not just enhancements but essentials in today’s safety-first environment.

But it’s not just the buses or the tech — it’s also the people behind the wheel. “All our drivers undergo rigorous training focused on student handling, road safety, and vehicle operation – with requisite sessions being supported by Eicher’s fleet training programs too,” explains Chaudhary. The school also follows a structured system of SOPs, route optimisation protocols, and daily checklists to ensure consistency in safety and punctuality.

Driving Comfort, Sustainability and Operational Efficiency

Comfort during the daily commute is directly linked to student well-being and readiness for the school day. DPS’s Eicher fleet delivers on this front as well. “Eicher buses come equipped with efficient air-conditioning systems, noise insulation, and ergonomically designed seating. These elements ensure that students have a calm, fatigue-free commute, positively impacting their general well-being and attitude towards learning,” Chaudhary notes.

The school’s forward-thinking approach also extends to sustainability. Already implementing rainwater harvesting and green campus initiatives, DPS is now turning its attention to cleaner mobility. “We have been quite alert and conscientious in making environment-friendly choices. Moving ahead, we are exploring CNG-powered buses and look forward to working closely with Eicher in piloting clean mobility solutions,” she adds.

On the operational front, fleet uptime is non-negotiable. “Eicher’s AMC programs, timely spares availability, and proactive maintenance schedules have helped us maintain high fleet uptime and cost-efficiency. Their regional service support ensures that issues are addressed with minimal disruption,” confirms the Principal. For a school environment where punctuality and predictability matter immensely, this level of after-sales commitment makes a significant difference.

Lastly, DPS takes an active role in shaping broader perceptions of safe student transport. “We actively educate parents on the importance of using authorised, compliant school transport. Our collaboration with Eicher not only ensures access to quality buses but also sets a benchmark for what regulated school transport should look like,” says Chaudhary. In doing so, the school is not just safeguarding its students, but also influencing a shift toward higher standards across the education ecosystem.
