The recent times has witnessed fierce competition in the tyre industry. Apollo Tyres, ranked as the 17th largest tyre manufacturer in the world, with its customer-centric approach and understanding of the needs of vehicle manufacturers, has shown steady growth in the truck & bus radial (TBR) segment, offering immense benefits to fleet operators.

The main factor which drives this radialisation is the development in road infrastructure which we are seeing. Also, it is of interest to note that the leading OEMs like Tata Motors, Ashok Leyland, VECV and Bharat Benz have special focus on radialisation for their new generation vehicles”, said Mr. Rajat Kataria, Division Head, CV Radials, Apollo Tyres Ltd., in an interview to MOTORINDIA.

Commenting on the company’s capacity expansion plans at its Oragadam plant in Chennai, Mr. Kataria said: “We have a current capacity of 6,000 truck buss radial tyres a day and are planning to increase it to 9,000 units in the next few years. The plant takes care of the export demand also.”

Sharing his views on the increase in tyre imports, Mr. Kataria said: “The Indian tyre brands stand much ahead, offering products and services which translate into lower cost per km. When we offer different products to different customers and applications, we are offering them the best choice.”
