MG Grey Engine adding value through innovation

MG Grey Engine (MGGE), the automotive electronics arm of the MG Group, showcased its technology capabilities at the show, including its new cost-effective Public Address (PA) system, LED destination boards and other solutions. An automotive electronics product design, development and manufacturing company, MGGE focuses on providing intelligent and innovative solutions in the field of automotive electronics, formed with a vision to provide a one-stop technology solution to the Indian automotive industry.

MGGE’s new PA system, designed in line with the new bus code regulation, includes a cost-effective integrated microphone which comes with low form factor, digital control, electrical protection, including speaker protection, and an efficient audio amplifier which operates on 89 per cent efficiency while running on vehicle battery.  The IP-66 compliant system is water and dust resistant, making it a maintenance-free choice for customers. The company is in the process of patenting the complete system.

“We are in talks with GSRTC, APSRTC, BMTC and a few more STUs for our PA system. Mahindra has already implemented the new system in its Cosmo range of buses which are built as per the new bus code regulation. We have delivered 80 systems to them and hope to deliver 300 more in the near future”, says Mr. Rajesh Kunder, Head – Innovations, MG Grey Engine.

MGGE has also developed cost-effective LED destination boards which do not require a stand-alone master controller. Since multiple destination boards are usually used in a bus, the new technique enables one of the boards to act as a master controller, thus minimizing the complexity of the system, and also makes it cost-competitive.

MGGE is working on another interesting system solution – a ground-breaking camera surveillance system. “We have developed a sophisticated and cost-effective camera surveillance system which runs based on our own compression algorithms wherein the huge video data can be stored on a small memory space. While the bus industry demands a 48-hour video back-up at present, we are in a position to offer a back-up of close to one week (168 hours). The cameras are sealed and conform to the IP-67 norms, making them maintenance-free, while we also provide real-time streaming as an option for customers”, explains Mr. Kunder.

MGGE feels there is plenty of potential for innovation in the market with customers playing an important role in development of new systems and technology. The company is confident of holding its own when it comes to thinking out of the box and coming up with new and innovative solutions to satisfy customer requirements.

“We want to make a difference in the Indian market and are confident that we can add value to the OEMs. Fleet owners, both large and small, have become very innovative and demand new solutions which give us the encouragement to innovate and come up with interesting solutions. I am sure MG Grey Engine will be able to deliver a lot of exciting new products and be a good example for the Make-In-India initiative”, he signs off.
