Distinguished Alumnus Award conferred on Dr. N.S. Srinivasan

Prof. Dr. N.S. Srinivasan was conferred the Distinguished Alumnus Award by the Regents of the Alumni Association of the College of Engineering, Guindy, on March 20, in recognition of his outstanding service to India and other developing nations in the field of traffic and transportation planning and implementation of projects.

Dr. Srinivasan is an expert in traffic and transportation engineering and has carried out extensive research and planning in India and other developing countries. He served the Central Road Research Institute, New Delhi, as Head of the Traffic and Transportation Division and the National Transportation Planning and Research Centre, Thiruvananthapuram, as Executive Director.

He has worked with the United Nations and the World Bank on important assignments and was the World Bank advisor to prepare the highway network plan for Yemen.

After retirement, Dr. Srinivasan started the Transport Advisory Forum and has prepared transportation plans for Delhi, Bangalore and other cities, and also for the 9th Asian Games of Delhi and the 8th World Tamil Conference at Thanjavur. He has been acknowledged as “the man who brought order to Delhi’s roads”, “Roving Organizer”, “Pioneer in Traffic Planning”, and “the Father of Traffic Engineering in India”.

The Indian Roads and Transport Development Association (IRTDA) honoured him with the “Life Time Achievement Award”. He has also been honoured by the Kerala Government in 2004 and 2012 for the excellent Urban Planning and Mobility Projects in the State.
