Teikin on the look-out for distributors in India

Established in Indonesia in 1973, Teikin Engine Components has been one of the most preferred sources of pistons, piston rings, cylinder liners and engine gaskets across the world. With over 40 years of experience as a global manufacturer of engine components serving both OEMs and the aftermarket, Teikin products are currently available in more than 150 countries worldwide.

Supported with a strong marketing network, Teikin’s extensive product range caters to the rigorous demands of various Japanese, Korean, American and European engine applications. Given its success in different global markets, Teikin is currently focusing on establishing its presence in the highly potential Indian market and is on the look-out for distributor partners in the country.

Speaking exclusively to MOTORINDIA, Mr. Sendjaja Soetanto, Director, Teikin Engine Components, says: “We want to reinforce our brand in the Indian market and are looking for distributors for our products across the country. We started selling our products in the Indian market three years ago and find the pricing to be very low compared to the international standards, with the local players seeming to enjoy a protective tariff from import duties and bureaucracy. We find the aftermarket segment to be wide open in India and since we provide a wider range than what the domestic suppliers offer at present, we would like to capitalize on the potential in the market.”

Already having an office in India, located in Chennai, Teikin is targeting to identify at least 10 to 15 distributors pan-India by the end of the current financial year. Given the potential the market offers, the company is also planning to commence local manufacturing in India. “We plan to manufacture our products in India once the time is right for which we initially need to set up our distribution network. Though the population is high, the vehicle ownership ratio is very low in India, which means we have big room for growth. We see India as a hugely potential market and shall grow with the advancement of the buying power of the people”, adds Mr. Soetanto.

Teikin high-precision engine components are manufactured using state-of-the-art proprietary technologies and synergized by the application of the finest materials available. The company caters to the passenger car and commercial vehicle segments through products sourced from its various group companies across Asia: pistons from Indonesia, gaskets from Taiwan and brake-pads from China. The company supplies to wholesalers, engine rebuilders and piston factories in over 150 countries and has almost 100 per cent share in the Japanese and Korean markets. It offers parts for over 2,000 engine models and is a clear leader when it comes to versatility of product range.

An important contributing factor for Teikin’s global success has been its focus in the aftermarket segment. Since the aftermarket demands a very wide range of products, as against the relatively lesser variety demanded by OEMs, that in turn calls for large scale manufacturing with high levels of automation, the Indonesian manufacturer’s wide range comes as one of its major advantages against competition.
