Specially-designed Mann+Hummel CV air filters growing popular

In commercial vehicles, there is less space available for equipment such as air filters and air intake systems. The installation space is further restricted by the compact design of vehicles, comfort components and exhaust-gas after-treatment systems. Mann+Hummel develops customisable air filter concepts in order to ensure optimum utilisation of the restricted space within the vehicle.

The international team of Mann+Hummel showcased its technical competence and expertise for a wide variety of challenges inherent in modern commercial vehicles at the recently-held Hannover fair. The company had special presenters to demonstrate its new and established products to the visitors.

Interacting with MOTORINDIA at the fair, Mr. Wolfgang Cedzich, Vice President, Truck Business, Mann+Hummel GmbH, observed: “Our main intention here is to show how our international business works. We started this division ten years ago with a special focus on the truck business”.

New product presenters

The media presenter for the topic of filter models showed the structural design of the company’s air, cabin, oil and fuel filters that provide effective protection against allergies and pollutants for people and against premature wear for engines. Depending on the application and requirement, they consist of cellulose fibre, synthetic fibres or a combination of different layers with adapted properties. A multi-stage water separation filter for protection of modern diesel injection systems in commercial vehicles which operate at injection pressures exceeding 2,500 bar was also presented.

Although classic filter concepts for commercial vehicles are very effective, they require appropriate space for installation and service. Mann+Hummel offers the new EXALIFE air filters to be installed in narrow, flat installation spaces, as well as the VarioPleat concept for areas of pleat height and pleat height variability.

In vehicles, occupants are increasingly experiencing allergic reactions caused by pollen, bacteria and mould fungi. In addition to air filters for engine air filtration, Mann+Hummel offers a wide range of air filters for cabin air filtration in commercial vehicles. These products efficiently protect the driver against dust, soot particles and pollutants.

Commenting on the company’s Indian operations, Mr. Cedzich said that Tata Motors, the Indian auto giant, has already been using the air cleaner systems for its world trucks. Talks are on with other leading auto makers like Volvo-Eicher and Bharat Benz in India.

Since India is an important and dynamic market, his company has been strengthening its activities in the region. It recently set up a plant in Thailand to cater to the needs of Volvo commercial vehicles, added Mr. Cedzich.
