Interpump Hydraulics India Pvt. Ltd. commenced its India operations during the year 2006. It is a 100% subsidiary of Interpump Hydraulics, a company of the Interpump Group, which is a pioneer in the manufacture of power take off’s and hydraulic pumps of various types; and has cornered an impressive market share – Mr. Girish Garud, Managing Director, provides his observations on segment developments.

Please brief us your hydraulic wet kit & PTO product program and principal application segments to which these have been supplied.

In case of PTO’s and pumps, we are catering to all the gearboxes of all the OEM’s in India. Our capacities in the pump range is from 5cc to 105cc, which covers the entire Indian tipping range. We are proud to share that we are the only manufacturer in India to have such a wide range of products. Also our clutch dependent PTO range is from 40 N-m to 2000 N-m. We are the only player in the Indian market who have the capabilities to supply the entire hydraulic system from gearbox aperture to the cylinder top end. We are supplying the above products to, construction, mining, waste management tippers. Our high end PTO’s are extensively used in aircraft refulling application, and in bulkers. We also have special PTO’s for fire trucks and jetting machines.

Do you undertake the body fabrication and integration of hydraulic systems or focus only on hydraulic wet kit/PTO supplies? Comment also on the front end and underbody tipping systems.

We focus only on the supply of wet kit. The mounting and integration of this kit is normally done by the body builder. We are mainly in the business of front end tipping systems. Europe and the western world has migrated from under body tipping systems to front end tipping systems due to numerous advantages. This is also the trend in India too. We are introducing in India for the first time the inverted tipping system which has the combined features and advantages of both the tipping concepts.

Highlight your production facilities, quality control norms and USPs to attract the customers including the OEMs. Indicate also on your mining segment supply program.

We have 3 plants for the production of PTO, pumps and hydraulic kit. We are manufacturing the products exactly to our Italian design, with the same process and machines like what are used in Italy. Hence the performance of our products is exactly same as the European products today. This has also been validated by our Italian designers, and quality persons. Our capacities are so designed to meet the peak values of the customer demand. Today we are the largest player in the business of PTO and Pumps in India and in the world too. All major OEM’s in India and worldwide are our customers. Yes. We are supplying tipping kits to vehicles in the mining segment. The concept of these tipping kits is similar to the normal ones. However our normal design itself is suited to meet mining requirements. Our criteria for approval of the tipping kit is that it clears minimum 80,000 tipping cycles which is the specification for mining tippers. Further our cylinders operate at higher pressures than our competitors, which make them suitable to lift material with different densities.

Comment about your supply to tip trailer segment and strategies to compete in a competitive market.

We are supplying tipping kits only and do not design or manufacture the bodies in this segment. We also work closely with all OEM’s who are in this segment. Our innovative design of side tipping of tip trailers upto 120 tons has been well proven and appreciated in South African mines too. We are working on this concept with major Indian OEM’s too. Our strategy in this business is to offer a latest European product in the price range of an Indian product. Hence we have the major market share today in PTO and pumps and are by far the largest player in this market.

Tell us if you undertake work for OEMs/direct customers or both. Indicate your viewpoints about the aftermarket supplies, demand and growth prospects.

Due to our technical competence in this field, OEM’s consider us as a partner during the development of any new concept or product related to hydraulics in this field. Our main focus is to build a technically high end product which incurs a lot of development, stringent testing and quality norms which can be supported by an OEM only. However in special segments like aircraft refuelling, fire trucks, jetting trucks, we work with direct customers, as their requirements are very specific to their application only. We have dealers all over the country to support the aftermarket demand, and are also working with OEM’s to address this through their aftermarket channels.

Our growth strategy is dominated by the rise in the India market of our business. However we are adding certain new products in our range which will help us to cater to specific segments giving us substantial business. We have country specific export plans, to increase our foot print in Asian as well as European and African subcontinent.

Repair work, retrofitting and after sales service – brief us about your capabilities, current involvement and support to customers.

We have a 3 pronged strategy to address the aftermarket demand. Firstly we have our own dealer network, which is equipped with necessary parts and technically competent persons to handle all eventualities in this business. Secondly we have also tied up with the OEM dealerships to increase our presence and cater to customers in remote areas too. Thirdly we are training the mechanics of the OEM dealers, so that the customers get instant support and that too in the same dealer outlet.
