DENSO displays advanced safety products and technologies

At the 13th Auto Expo 2016, DENSO Corporation showcases a variety of products and technologies, particularly in the areas of safety and environment.

Denso

DENSO’s safety products and technologies, which are essential for advanced safety systems, include a sensing technology that uses vision sensors and millimeter-wave radar sensors and advanced driving support systems with V2X communication technology to connect vehicles to infrastructure and to other vehicles.

DENSO’s environmental products and technologies on display include direct gasoline injection systems, diesel common rail systems, electric vehicle and hybrid electric vehicle-related products, all of which contribute to improving vehicle fuel efficiency.

The Japanese company continues to help create a more environmentally friendly and road accident-free society by developing products and technologies related to safety and the environment.

Gasoline engine management system

DENSO develops and supplies various products for gasoline engines, including those for air intake, fuel injection, ignition and exhaust processes. Moreover, DENSO’s engine electronic control unit (ECU) integrally controls them all to improve combustion efficiency while reducing CO2 emissions.

DENSO also develops and mass-produces high-pressure fuel injectors and pumps for direct injection engines that provide atomized fuel at the world’s finest level.

Diesel engine management system

In 2013, DENSO began mass-producing an ultra-high pressure, 2,500 bar common rail system. In 2012, it was the first manufacturer in the world to mass-produce a fuel injection control system, called intelligent Accuracy Refinement Technology (i-ART) System that helps increase fuel efficiency while also reducing emissions. I-ART measures the fuel injection pressure in real time and controls the fuel injection timing of the individual cylinders by using fuel pressure sensors built into the cylinders.

Products for electric and hybrid vehicles

DENSO is developing and providing a variety of products to efficiently control the large amount of electric power used by hybrid and electric vehicles. This includes, the power control unit, which is composed of two types of converters

1) to boost the voltage of the hybrid vehicle’s main battery and

2) to convert direct current to alternating current and the battery monitoring unit, which monitors the voltage and temperature of the high-voltage battery and controls the voltage variations among the individual cells of the battery.

Safety-related products and technologies

Sensing technology

DENSO is working on more sophisticated sensing technology combined with millimeter-wave radar and vision sensors. This technology, which can more accurately detect pedestrians, vehicles and other objects in all kinds of environments, is used in systems including those to detect and avoid a possible collision with an obstacle ahead and enable one’s own vehicle to follow the vehicle in front.

V2X communication technology

DENSO is developing dedicated short-range communications (DSRC) devices that enable vehicles to communicate with other vehicles and also the nfrastructure. DSRC devices use two-way, short-range wireless communication, similar to WiFi, to allow, data exchanges with other DSRC transceivers. They communicate a car’s location, velocity, acceleration and path history, which is not possible only by vehicle sensors, to help reduce accidents, ease congestion and save gas.

DENSO has also developed “Doko,” featuring an answer back system for motorbikes for the Indian auto market, which is dominated by motorbikes.
