BBL Daido’s engine bearing plant opened

The engine bearing plant of BBL Daido Private Ltd., a joint venture of the Amalgamations Group and Daido Metal Company of Japan, was inaugurated at Pudupakkam, Kelambakkam, near Chennai on August 27.

This second unit of the company was jointly opened by Mr. A. Krishnamoorthy, Chairman, Amalgamations Group, and Mr. Seigo Hanji, Chairman & Chief Executive Officer, Daido Metal Co. Ltd.

BBL Daido commenced its operations in 2002 for the manufacture of steel-backed PTFE layered (DU) bushes at its Pudupakkam factory.

In his address, Mr. Seigo Hanji observed that India is attracting global attention as a huge market. The Amalgamations Group is indeed a close business partner for his company and, based on the common goals of the two, BBL Daido’s presence in the Indian market will be further enhanced.

Mr. Krishnamoorthy said that BBL Daido has grown to become a major supplier of DU bushes to the two-wheeler, four-wheeler and auto component manufacturing segments. Its products have been well accepted by customers.

Tracing the genesis of the association of Amalgamations with Daido Metal Co. from the early 1990s, he said the Japanese major is a leading supplier of bearings and other products with worldwide presence and acknowledged material strength. Its present plans are to further expand the DU bush and engine bearings capacities.

Tamil Nadu and Chennai have become an auto hub with the presence of major vehicle and auto component manufacturers, and as such there is high optimism about BBL Daido’s future in the State, Mr. Krishnamoorthy added.

Mr. C.V. Shankar, Additional Chief Secretary, Government of Tamil Nadu, and other dignitaries from major car manufacturers in India such as Maruti Suzuki, Nissan and Toyota were also present at the function.

Mr. N.V. Ravi, Senior President, BBL Daido, proposed a vote of thanks.
