Zurcon® Glyd Ring® D from Trelleborg Sealing Solutions gives the perfect combination of sealing performance and service life, through optimized contact pressure and minimized heat generated from friction. To achieve this, adequate friction is ensured with an innovative design that incorporates two special grooves in the D-shaped profile of the seal to sustain an oil film for sufficient lubrication of the seal against its counter surface.

The new Zurcon® Glyd Ring® D is manufactured from Zurcon® Z13 polyurethane material, which has been specially developed to cope with pressures up to 500 bar/ 7,250 psi at both sides of the seal and at temperatures up to +120 °C / +248 °F. The seal therefore gives long life, even under demanding conditions. Offering superb mechanical and elastic properties, the seal loses none of its resilience and can be used in cylinders with lower quality inner walls.

Mr. Alberto Livi, Product Manager for the seal at Trelleborg Sealing Solutions, says: “In the latest more powerful hydraulic applications, high pressure is combined with elevated temperatures. The new Zurcon® 13 polyurethane material used in Zurcon® Glyd Ring® D is specially developed to cope with this combination. The product is truly ‘cool under pressure’ and that with it we can offer a seal that has a long life, even under unforgiving conditions.”

Core industrial applications for Zurcon® Z13 Glyd Ring® D include construction machinery, earthmoving equipment, mobile cranes, forklift trucks and any other solutions involving mobile hydraulics. The seal offers superior resilience and good friction properties. It is compatible with hydraulic, mineral, synthetic and water-based fluids and with a hardness of 60 shore D offers outstanding wear resistance, excellent extrusion properties and hydrolysis resistance.

Zurcon® Z82: A New Seal Material on the Sunny Side

Seals in applications exposed to direct sun can deteriorate rapidly due to the effect of ultraviolet rays. Now Zurcon® Z82 offers a seal material that welcomes the sun!

In many applications seals are housed and protected from the elements, however, this is not always possible and seals are sometimes positioned where they are open to wind, rain and the sun.

One of the harshest elements is the sun and its ultra-violet (UV) rays can have a highly deteriorating effect on sealing materials, reducing seal life significantly. This can lead to frequent maintenance requirements and extended downtime, impacting the productivity of manufacturers and operators. The Zurcon® Z82 material is ideal for pneumatic and hydraulic applications, many of which are in extremely harsh environments where equipment is continually exposed to the sun, such as, in offshore oil & gas facilities and on off highway equipment.

Trelleborg Sealing Solutions has therefore spent considerable research and development resources in engineering this product. In tests, this has proved to demonstrate superior resistance to UV compared to other UHMW polyurethane sealing materials. “Zurcon® Z82 can be used to replace existing sealing products,” says Soeren Roepstorff, R&D Manager at the Trelleborg Sealing Solutions manufacturing facility in Helsingør, Denmark and who was involved in the development of Zurcon® Z82.

“If seals in Zurcon® Z82 are extensively exposed to sunlight, then according to our test results, when Zurcon® Z82 is used, seal life will be extended and maintenance for seal replacement can be reduced. This is a very important benefit where downtime can have a significant effect on a manufacturer’s or operator’s bottom line. In the oil & gas industry, for instance, a few hours of lost production can equate to many thousands of dollars in lost revenue” he says.
