Furthering its initiative to promote safety during school bus travel, Tata Motors recently facilitated students from class I – X, based on a unique drawing and collage-making competition called ‘Dream it to Win it’. Being the second edition of this campaign, the company awarded scholarships to nine winners from Mumbai.

‘Dream it to Win it’ is a competition organized by Tata Motors under the bus safety campaign which was carried out to ensure safety of children during school-bus travel, and also to create awareness on the softer aspects of dealing with parents and children.

The company organized the ‘Dream it to Win it’ campaign for school students across 22 cities, including Delhi NCR, Amritsar, Ahmedabad, Bhubaneshwar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Cochin, Coimbatore, Hyderabad, Jalandhar, Lucknow, Madurai, Mangalore, Mumbai, Namakkal, Nellore, Pune, Rajkot, Salem, Thiruvananthapuram, Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam, with participation of over 3.9 lakh students from over 1,900 schools across the country. Students were divided into three categories, with 198 city-level winners and nine national-level winners. The prize winning entries compete at the city level, and the winners then move forward for the national-level competition.

‘Dream it to Win it’, in its second year, aimed to encourage not only creativity among school children but also aspires to bring about consciousness about safety and the role school-buses play in ensuring safe travel. The contest is aimed at showcasing the talent of children and enhancing their awareness levels on the importance of safe school bus travel. Through this program, children were felicitated with certificates, scholarships and exciting gifts too.

Commenting on the occasion, Mr. R. Ramakrishnan, Senior Vice President, Commercial Vehicles Business Unit, Tata Motors, said: “At Tata Motors, we believe that the safety of school children is of utmost importance. The ‘Dream it to Win it’ contest is one such activity where children are encouraged to showcase their idea of safety by evoking their creative side through a drawing and collage competition. As one of the country’s largest school bus manufacturers, promoting safety during school bus travel is in our best interest, and we will continue to do so through various such initiatives, creating a sense of responsibility among children, their parents, schools and school bus operators.”

Having conducted the ‘Dream it to Win it’ contest for the first time in 2013, the campaign received participation of over 2,000 schools and over 4.1 lakh students in the first year alone.

Tata Motors also organizes another school bus initiative called ‘Hamare Bus Ki Baat Hai’. This program targets school bus drivers and attendants, educating them on the softer aspects of interacting with children and parents. This programme has been designed with inputs from various stake-holders, sensitizing participants to better understand a child’s needs, creating awareness about their duties and responsibilities, general etiquette and behavior, and to take necessary measures in case of accidents.
